We don’t need no intelligence briefings
Does this make you feel safer? President Obama routinely misses 60% of his intelligence briefings.
A new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report reveals that President Barack Obama has attended only 42.1% of his daily intelligence briefings (known officially as the Presidential Daily Brief, or PDB) in the 2,079 days of his presidency through September 29, 2014. The GAI report also included a breakdown of Obama’s PDB attendance record between terms; he attended 42.4% of his PDBs in his first term and 41.3% in his second.
The GAI’s alarming findings come on the heels of Obama’s 60 Minutes comments on Sunday, wherein the president laid the blame for the Islamic State’s (ISIS) rapid rise squarely at the feet of his Director of National Intelligence James Clapper. “I think our head of the intelligence community, Jim Clapper, has acknowledged that I think they underestimated what had been taking place in Syria,” said Obama.
According to Daily Beast reporter Eli Lake, members of the Defense establishment were “flabbergasted” by Obama’s attempt to shift blame. “Either the president doesn’t read the intelligence he’s getting or he’s bullshitting,” a former senior Pentagon official “who worked closely on the threat posed by Sunni jihadists in Syria and Iraq” told the Daily Beast.
This data, coupled with numerous reports showing that the intelligence community was quite clear about the threat of ISIS for years, illustrates how uninformed our President has been about these matters. Worse, it once again proves how willing he is to blame someone else for his own failures.
Readers!
My annual February birthday fund-raising drive for Behind the Black is now over. Thank you to everyone who donated or subscribed. While not a record-setter, the donations were more than sufficient and slightly above average.
As I have said many times before, I can’t express what it means to me to get such support, especially as no one is required to pay anything to read my work. Thank you all again!
For those readers who like my work here at Behind the Black and haven't contributed so far, please consider donating or subscribing. My analysis of space, politics, and culture, taken from the perspective of an historian, is almost always on the money and ahead of the game. For example, in 2020 I correctly predicted that the COVID panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Every one of those 2020 conclusions has turned out right.
Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.
You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are four ways of doing so:
1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.
2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.
3. A Paypal Donation or subscription:
4. Donate by check, payable to Robert Zimmerman and mailed to

The world and reality is as it is and not the way that you wish it would be. The president insists that reality conform to his interpretation, likes and dislikes. The president as most all Marxist / Liberals look to blame others as they encounter the push back that inevitably comes to people who think in such narrow and idealistic ways.
Reality happens whether you participate or not, the question is: Are you the kind of person that deals with it face to face or are you the kind of person that points his or her finger at another? I think we know what we are dealing with in this case.
So Obama doesn’t know what is happening in Syria but just a few months ago almost took us to war there. Now, he thinks he knows what rebels to arm and who to bomb but simultaneously doesn’t know about ISIS? Ugh.
Meanwhile as Nero..excuse me…Obama looks to shift blame, ISIS or ISIL (take your pick) approaches the outskirts of Baghdad. A disaster is looming if this city falls. And if it falls, what is the point of continued bombing?
How can it be called the “Presidential Daily Briefing” if the president isn’t there :)
This president is a tool.
What did he actually order and do when he said he was going to help the Syrian rebels?
Did he send in ‘advisers’ like every other administration would have done?
Advisers do two things, one they help the people we intend them to. And two they send intelligence back to us.
He should have known the first instance that ISIS was growing. He should have inside men in their organization right now.
But no he just passes it off as paperwork he can ignore each morning. Golf is far more important.
