Readers! A November fund-raising drive!

It is unfortunately time for another November fund-raising campaign to support my work here at Behind the Black. I really dislike doing these, but 2025 is so far turning out to be a very poor year for donations and subscriptions, the worst since 2020. I very much need your support for this webpage to survive.

And I think I provide real value. Fifteen years ago I said SLS was garbage and should be cancelled. Almost a decade ago I said Orion was a lie and a bad idea. As early as 1998, long before almost anyone else, I predicted in my first book, Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8, that private enterprise and freedom would conquer the solar system, not government. Very early in the COVID panic and continuing throughout I noted that every policy put forth by the government (masks, social distancing, lockdowns, jab mandates) was wrong, misguided, and did more harm than good. In planetary science, while everyone else in the media still thinks Mars has no water, I have been reporting the real results from the orbiters now for more than five years, that Mars is in fact a planet largely covered with ice.

I could continue with numerous other examples. If you want to know what others will discover a decade hence, read what I write here at Behind the Black. And if you read my most recent book, Conscious Choice, you will find out what is going to happen in space in the next century.

This last claim might sound like hubris on my part, but I base it on my overall track record.

So please consider donating or subscribing to Behind the Black, either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. I could really use the support at this time. There are five ways of doing so:

1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.

2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation. Takes about a 10% cut.

3. A Paypal Donation or subscription, which takes about a 15% cut:

4. Donate by check. I get whatever you donate. Make the check payable to Robert Zimmerman and mail it to

Federal police remove protesters blocking Portland ICE building

Federal police today removed the protesters and their tent city that was blocking the entrance to the ICE building in Portland.

Though the action was generally peaceful, and did not interfere with protesters and tents not located on federal property, eight people were arrested.

What bothers me most about these protests is their hypocrisy and ignorance. The immigration law that the Trump administration is following was passed during the Bush administration, and was administered in much the same way by Obama. The only significant thing that Trump is doing different is that he has not been releasing illegals on their own recognizance.

Thus, the outrage by these protesters is purely partisan, has nothing really to do with any issue of right and wrong, and is aimed at gaining power, nothing more. That it is based on pure ignorance and an obvious and irrational hatred of Trump makes it even more disgraceful.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The print edition can be purchased at Amazon or from any other book seller. If you want an autographed copy the price is $60 for the hardback and $45 for the paperback, plus $8 shipping for each. Go here for purchasing details. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

These people, I assume Americans, want open borders with no check on who comes in to the country or where they are going or how long they might be staying AND they have access to the American welfare state. Totally open ended and without regulation.

Now think about that for just one moment.

These people, and I have to assume that they are well under any kind of majority, its just that they are organized ala “Community organizer” methodology, are the enemies of Americans and the American Constitution. Period.

Portland, like Seattle has a large and idle radical group. A very angry and hateful group. They are enhanced by the local ultra liberal Reed College and the largest state university PSU. Also, like Seattle, the city government cares more about virtue signaling than running a city. The local police have been ordered not to assist ICE, even with trespassing issues. This is not over.

And here is the newly minted “Progressive” Congress woman from NY that will become the shining example of what Socialism is all about as it attempts to become relevant. “Eliminate ICE” / border security.

Remember, you can not have open borders and a welfare state, its just “politically correct”, parasitic and a suicide pact. And thats what its all about. Bernie Sanders Socialism and Anti American all day long.

It can only get more and more interestinger, and I have a front row seat.

“Portland, like Seattle has a large and idle radical group. A very angry and hateful group.”

As is the spawn of the U of O in Eugene, as has Berkley and USC, and ………

I have met on the Tri-Met Maxline mass transit railcars several people in Portland transiting from as far North as Bellvue, and as far South as San Diego, to events as early as the “Battle in Seattle” some 20 years ago. Interestingly, in the most recent 18 months I have seen some small groups, and asked if they paid, on a line where non-payment is endemic . They replied by flashing monthly passes on Tri-Met, linked on small chained identical packets that also had monthly passes for food and housing at various places in Portland. There is a funded, planned effort to keep our opponents making trouble as long as possible.

Soon now I may stop calling them the I-5 Banditos of the Black Mask, and call them simply mercs.

This is nothing more than the brown shirts of the democrats. Obama is a community organizer. POWER is the goal. There is no other logic as the democrats will do the same. once they are in power again.

POWER is everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They care nothing about the people they are using as a talking point!

The democrats showed their power with the Occupy movement. That was tactics that Bill Ayers perfected.

A customer this afternoon invited me to attend a celebration / meeting at her house this evening for the newly minted NY Congresswoman Cortez. She went on, ” We are celebrating the new direction of the Democrat party as we fight against Trump”. I smiled.

I said, “Oh, I don’t think you want me there”.

I then told her that what we are witnessing was the self destruction of the Democrat party. She said “that was before but not now, this is a new direction, this is the rebuilding of the Democrat party.” (She is a PHD)

She, like many others obviously believes that by going ever further to the Left and into Socialism and even Communism and not back to the center that that is where the salvation of the Democrat party lies. This is what they seem to be thinking in their desperation, they are unable to see or properly understand. Keeping in mind that I write this from NYC.

This is plainly one of the symptoms of Trump derangement syndrome compounded by the confusion promulgated by their faulty and emotion driven belief system.

“The rules are the same during the Bush and Obama ministration”
Newsweek article saying there was twice as many children incarcerated during the Obama administration.

    http://www.newsweek.com/trump-administration-holding-more-immigrant-children-shelters-ever-949099

It appears that they are trying to change history. Judging from all the protest they are succeeding in fooling the foolish.
I fantasize that those who protest will be forced to take a illegal family into their home until ICE can process them and send them back.
When a perceived problem becomes personal knowledge, then you can act upon it with wisdom. People can get so worked up over things that they know nothing about. It reminds me of a Monty python movie.
