Threats by Portland Occupy ICE protesters force closure of homeless food cart
They are coming for you next: Violent threats by Occupy ICE protesters in Portland have forced a food cart, whose profits were used to feed the homeless, to shut down.
Scott Hakes said some of the protesters told his daughter they would hurt her. He said the threats got worse after his daughter sold food to a DHS officer. “They’re constantly cussing at her and screaming at her. You know she’d finally had enough. She finally called me up on the phone, crying,” Scott Hakes said. “They already know what she drives. They see her walking around, and they run after her. You know, they videotape her, and they’re telling her they know where she’s at. And there’s no reason for it. She hasn’t done anything,” said Julie Hakes.
The cart, located at 0651 SW Bancroft St., is owned by the nonprofit homeless outreach organization, Operation Off The Grid, according to its Facebook page, and helps pay for food, clothing and hygiene products for the homeless. “Unfortunately, over the last month, we have been threatened and verbally attacked for not backing the immigration agenda at the DHS location and wanting to stay neutral and serve all who are hungry,” said a post on the cart’s Facebook page. “We tried repeatedly to try to work out peaceful solutions with the organizations and individuals protesting, but it all came back to being told almost daily to either support the anti-DHS agenda or suffer the consequences.”
The Happy Camper’s Facebook post says owners have not received any help from Portland police.
The Portland government is in league with these fascists. God forbid you are an ordinary citizen who happens to disagree with them. Expect to experience a modern version of Kristallnacht.

Every February I run a fund-raising drive during my birthday month. This year I celebrate my 72nd birthday, and hope and plan to continue writing and posting on Behind the Black for as long as I am able.
I hope my readers will support this effort. As I did in my November fund-raising drive, I am offering autographed copies of my books for large donations. Donate $250 and you can have a choice of the hardback of either Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8 or Conscious Choice: The origins of slavery in America and why it matters today and for our future in outer space. Donate $200 and you can get an autographed paperback copy of either.
Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. My analysis of space, politics, and culture, taken from the perspective of an historian, is almost always on the money and ahead of the game. For example, in 2020 I correctly predicted that the COVID panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Every one of those 2020 conclusions has turned out right.
Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.
You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are four ways of doing so:
1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.
2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.
3. A Paypal Donation or subscription:
4. Donate by check, payable to Robert Zimmerman and mailed to

Thank you so much Barak O and Bill A. The second civil war is upon us.
It’s amazing that stuff like this gets so little coverage in the national media. Without a doubt if Republicans were acting like this, we would never hear the end of it but we don’t hear anything about Democrats. It happens so much that if the media did cover these incidents, it would make up a significant portion of their programming.
When toy poodles attack!
I can’t be the only one who recognizes bluster and bluff for what it is.
hondo: These leftist extremists and brownshirts might be toy poodles, but right now they are doing real harm. We allow for our own defeat if we poo-poo their thuggery.
Living in the Portland Metro area, I have seen a growing tide of this sort of thing over the last 25 years. I will not be surprised if some of these fools attempt to shut down the ORYCON science fiction convention this November over not being against enforcing the immigration law, or not openly and strongly enough. This wave will continue to grow until people undercut its basis, which is in the colleges and public schools.
At the moment those institutions’ staff and administrators are deeply supportive of these thugs. Oregon spent two administrative terms with the Chancellor of the University of Oregon as its Governor, and then, for decades, as its senior Senator. During that time the academics became used to being the apple of the government’s eye. It is notable that the beginnings of violence were in the same timeframe as the peak years of power for this Mark Hatfield, a “Progressive Republican” Senator. It was his patronage that helped bloat public university attendance and salaries in Oregon, in concert with other politicians up and down the I-5 corridor.
The result is in the last 20 years the growth of the I-5 corridor’s “Banditos of the Black Mask”
