Readers! A November fund-raising drive!

It is unfortunately time for another November fund-raising campaign to support my work here at Behind the Black. I really dislike doing these, but 2025 is so far turning out to be a very poor year for donations and subscriptions, the worst since 2020. I very much need your support for this webpage to survive.

And I think I provide real value. Fifteen years ago I said SLS was garbage and should be cancelled. Almost a decade ago I said Orion was a lie and a bad idea. As early as 1998, long before almost anyone else, I predicted in my first book, Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8, that private enterprise and freedom would conquer the solar system, not government. Very early in the COVID panic and continuing throughout I noted that every policy put forth by the government (masks, social distancing, lockdowns, jab mandates) was wrong, misguided, and did more harm than good. In planetary science, while everyone else in the media still thinks Mars has no water, I have been reporting the real results from the orbiters now for more than five years, that Mars is in fact a planet largely covered with ice.

I could continue with numerous other examples. If you want to know what others will discover a decade hence, read what I write here at Behind the Black. And if you read my most recent book, Conscious Choice, you will find out what is going to happen in space in the next century.

This last claim might sound like hubris on my part, but I base it on my overall track record.

So please consider donating or subscribing to Behind the Black, either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. I could really use the support at this time. There are five ways of doing so:

1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.

2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation. Takes about a 10% cut.

3. A Paypal Donation or subscription, which takes about a 15% cut:

4. Donate by check. I get whatever you donate. Make the check payable to Robert Zimmerman and mail it to

You can also support me by buying one of my books, as noted in the boxes interspersed throughout the webpage or shown in the menu above.

Thank you for your support!

Readers

My July fund-raiser for Behind the Black is now over. The support from my readers was unprecedented, making this July campaign the best ever, twice over. What a marvelous way to celebrate the website’s tenth anniversary!

Thank you! The number of donations in July, and continuing now at the beginning of August, is too many for me to thank you all personally. Please forgive me by accepting my thank you here, in public, on the website.

If you did not donate or subscribe in July and still wish to, note that the tip jar (below or in the column to the right) remains available year round.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The print edition can be purchased at Amazon or from any other book seller. If you want an autographed copy the price is $60 for the hardback and $45 for the paperback, plus $8 shipping for each. Go here for purchasing details. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

I have set up recurring donations to a number of websites through the Brave browser BAT system. It is a small monthly sum but it is contingent on how much I get paid for allowing Brave to show me ads. If enough people do it, it adds up. So far, billwhittle.com is the only site that I set up donations to that participates in the program.

I don’t know how the systems works for content creators but I do like a system that gives me money for my attention, even if that is also a small sum. I just bring this up in case people are unaware.

I’ll have to look into this! Billwhittle. What a refreshing host, George found, to here just B4 the country birthday. Thank you! Robert you sounded good over the radio waves. Like my father’s teachers R.I.P. dad. I’m happier hearing about the privatization of space. Happy 4th of July!

I heard you complaining about Roscosmos on the Batchelor Show again.
I’ve read a bit about Russian history. It’s one disaster after another, then it gets worse. They never were so well off as during the last 20 years of Putin reign. Peace. Food. Not being whipped. Everything is perfect! No surprise he is so popular. He has centralized Roscosmos because someone’s got to do it right and he takes on the responsibility. Like Napoleon, it only gets right when he does it himself.

Here’s an amusing account of when Russia in 1904-5 sent their Baltic fleet to Japan, a space flight scale kind of project of the time:

    Admiral Rogozin to Putin:
“- Let’s try that ocean thing again!
    – Njet, it’s China’s turn now.”

Admiral Rozjestvenskij shouting at the next ship:
“- You on the czar’s rusty brothel bathtub, do something about the coal shortage and throw yourself into the oven!
(Hands over the megaphone to the Madagaskian talking parrot on his shoulder)
    – Or I will crucify you on the anchor and fish for a shark!
    – Hey, hear that! Finally one sailor here who understands something!
    – You’re Jap’s food sushi. Polly wants more vodka.”

Today, July 20, is the 51sth anniversary of the First Moon landing and walks in Human History – courtesy of the United States of America and NASA.

G-d Bless America and the engineers and pilots who accomplished that historic achievement.

Highly recommended to support …… A subscription pays off double in a way because on top of Mr. Zimmerman’s essays and reports, there are the comments by astute and articulate readers. Kindred spirits. I look forward to reading the comments as much as the articles that inspire them.

Keep up the great work. You are a voice of sanity in a crazy world. I just subscribed as my way of helping to keep your voice out there where it can be heard.

    Ad Astra,

    Warren

  • Warren: Thank you! The support is truly appreciated.

You should rename the site to Back Behinds and really see your click numbers take off to space!
