- Chinese pseudo-company Land Space starts manufacturing its stainless steel rocket body
Gee, I wonder where they got the idea to go back to steel?
- NASA official expects problem with Voyager-1 to be resolved
There is no story here, as this bureaucrat is simply repeating what the engineering team has already told us.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Gary-
Good stuff! This is why I appreciate Engineers cuz’ I can barely understand Orbital Mechanics.
There’s another version of that (somewhere) showing the relative motion of our Solar System embedded in the Milky Way.

Don’t buy food from China. 80% of China’s water is polluted with stuff like toxins, heavy metals, and carcinogens. Livestock drink it and crops are watered with it. Everything is contaminated.

Boeing whistle-blower John Barnett was apparently murdered by the execs at Boeing, because he was exposing shoddy work by those building Boeing airliners. Don‘t fly on Boeing planes! They are not safe!
“Only a few lunar sites are ideal for certain cutting-edge research—and they’re under threat from mining, satellites and bases, scientists argue”
“The moon hosts several sites of extraordinary scientific importance (SESIs) to astronomy. (…) But because of the far side’s mountainous terrain, scientists say the installation of telescopes is possible at only three sites—and one in particular is rich in helium-3, which space mining companies have identified as a key element in quantum computers and fusion energy. (…) Another scarce resource are the moon’s “cold traps,” located along craters near the north and south poles, where sunlight hasn’t been able to reach for billions of years. Among the universe’s most frigid places, they are the perfect location for infrared telescopes, which are specifically designed to operate at extremely cold temperatures. (…) But these sensitive locations would lose their scientific value if rovers, mining technologies and satellites began operating nearby, researchers say.”

I understand the desire to do science on the Moon. But then they intend to monopolize entire parts of it. I wonder whether most of their proposed research could be done with instruments in space, but shielded against terrestrial influences.
