Neil deGrasse Tyson under attack for fabricating quotes
A series of recent articles have attacked Neil deGrasse Tyson for fabricating quotes and other facts in this lectures and presentations. This article provides a good summary.

Once you have chosen a side, for what ever reason, then you become a zealot for your cause and you have surrendered some degree of your objectivity. At that point you may dilute your “scientific” credentials because now you are a part of a cause and a movement, you are smart and good, and they can not be right so they are not smart and are not good. And now that you have established that “FACT” you can pander to the emotions of the public so they get on board, you have done the thinking and concluding for them. Now let the mocking and name calling commence, their is consensus, the science is settled.
Would Neil DeGrass Tyson ever participate in a board such as this and put his conclusions to the test and defend his position?
This is something that always bothered me about NdT. To into his showmanship – and by Cosmos, advocacy. Not enough self questioning, or mentioning about possible questions, or contrary ideas or evidence.

Tyson is an affirmative action hire, at every level. I don’t care where he went to school.
There are people here at BtB who know more about physics and science in general, than he does.

wayne: I have been a space/science popularizer for more than three decades, but because I am also not of the right ethnic and racial preference and am conservative, I have been blocked repeatedly in my career. It is why I decided to focus my work here, where no one else can act to shut me up. I had enough of that previously.
Sean Carroll is another victim of TDS. Never worked a day in the private sector in his life. His physics *sound* reasonable (less and less I must add), but he uses the exact same logical contortions to attack Trump and 70 million voters, because we’re all too stupid to appreciate his brilliance. (Carroll’s wife, is a nut as well, and she has a big audience.)

There is a difference between “experts” (That know everything like Sean and Neil) and the council that they might give to (The public) or leadership and leadership itself.
Many people tend to conflate the one, with the other, and that is incorrect.
Leadership is not a function of research and data.
And when leadership surrenders their decision making to the “Experts” then the one thing that can ensue and is ensured is authoritarian “logic” and mandated behavior.
