Big money offered to protest Trump
Advertisements in two dozen cities offered protesters a $2,500 monthly retainer plus $50 per hour to be professional protesters against Donald Trump.
Demand Protest, a San Francisco company that bills itself as the “largest private grassroots support organization in the United States,” posted identical ads Jan. 12 in multiple cities on Backpage.com seeking “operatives.”
“Get paid fighting against Trump!” says the ad. “We pay people already politically motivated to fight for the things they believe. You were going to take action anyways, why not do so with us!” the ad continues. “We are currently seeking operatives to help send a strong message at upcoming inauguration protests.” The job offers a monthly retainer of $2,500 plus “our standard per-event pay of $50/hr, as long as you participate in at least 6 events a year,” as well as health, vision and dental insurance for full-time operatives.
Though the article does not say where the money is coming from, it really doesn’t matter. It proves that the protests we will see are generally fake, and not expressing a real undercurrent of protest. Congressional Republicans and Trump should thus ignore them.

Readers!
Every February I run a fund-raising drive during my birthday month. This year I celebrate my 72nd birthday, and hope and plan to continue writing and posting on Behind the Black for as long as I am able.
I hope my readers will support this effort. As I did in my November fund-raising drive, I am offering autographed copies of my books for large donations. Donate $250 and you can have a choice of the hardback of either Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8 or Conscious Choice: The origins of slavery in America and why it matters today and for our future in outer space. Donate $200 and you can get an autographed paperback copy of either.
Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. My analysis of space, politics, and culture, taken from the perspective of an historian, is almost always on the money and ahead of the game. For example, in 2020 I correctly predicted that the COVID panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Every one of those 2020 conclusions has turned out right.
Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.
You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are four ways of doing so:
1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.
2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.
3. A Paypal Donation or subscription:
4. Donate by check, payable to Robert Zimmerman and mailed to

Trump should send his own people to volunteer! Imagine the fun he could have?
As H.A. Goodman said on youtube. The democrats deserve Trump for at least 4 years, at least, for just backing Hillary!
It’s all a dark web of money laundering for the Democrat party. It is party organized and controlled. Our media turns a blind eye to how these groups exist and their violence. The media actually celebrates their violence in most cases.
The largest private grassroots support organization in the United States? An organization that no one has ever heard of is grassroots and large? And rich?
It seems unlikely.
It seems top down, not grassroots.
This is a hoax. A representative was exposed on the Tucker Carlson show on the Fox network (1/17/17). He was asked to provide proof of his identity with a credit card, license, etc. He was also hammered with questions that yielded responses that had me rolling on the floor, laughing. It is definitely worth viewing if a video gets posted on the web. Even the representative expressed surprise that he was able to get away with the prank for as long as he did.
Thanks for the heads-up Joseph.
I particularly liked when the representative causally said something to the effect of “that’s why, 30 minutes ago, we changed our mission from protesting Trump to protesting the Trump protesters.”

Garry/Joseph–
I totally gave up network/cable news— so, this is an entirely fake operation?
Garry,
I would LOVE to see Tucker Carlson make this kind of expose’ a regular feature of his show! It was hilarious! Much better that he treated the performance artist with humor rather than as an adversary. And the guy was a good sport about it when he finally just had to admit the truth. Bill O’Reilly better watch out because Tucker just might end his dominance as the top show on television.
By the way, I’m a big supporter of Peyton Manning too! I even like Papa John’s pizza! When it looked like Tom Brady might have to retire because of injuries, Peyton happened to be available to replace him. When I mentioned that he might come to Foxboro, my mom nearly had a stroke. But I think that anyone that can laugh at himself on “nationwide” television can’t be all that bad. I would like to see Peyton and Tom eventually team up as game announcers/ color commentators.
Wayne, watch the video I linked (about 7 minutes). The whole thing is a hoax, but the reasons are obscure. If I were to guess, I’d say that the guy just likes trolling and may be trying to make a point about how easy it is to manufacture “news” and be taken seriously by bug media. It’s unclear whether he’s conservative, liberal, anarchist, or none of the above, but he does a pretty good performance art as the caricature of a liberal.
PeterF, it’s been years since I haven’t watched news regularly, but I really like what little I’ve sen as Tucker Carlson. He gets right to the truth of things, and, as you said, he has a sense of humor. We don’t have enough of the “Happy Warriors” these days.
Tucker’s specialty seems to be interviewing extremists from the other side, sticking to very basic questions, and making them look silly. This clip shows that he has a sense of perspective and isn’t an overzealous bulldog; perhaps this guest was trying to paint him that way.
Garry: As amusing as this guy is in his interview with Tucker Carlson, his identity remains unknown. In fact, my impression of him is one of a very smart dude who quickly scrambled to avoid Carlson’s attacks and thus disarm him. I remain curious and unconvinced. The ads were paid for, they did appear, and contacts will be made because of them.
I agree; I’m puzzled by why he would go to the expense to put the ads up.
Is he trying to promote anti-Trump protests?
Is he trying to scare people from protesting against Trump?
Is there some kind of scam involved where he takes money from people who answer ads?
Is it just a way to get contact info he can sell?
Is he just trying to get exposure on the national media, for whatever reason?
It’s all a big mystery, but if nothing else we got some amusement out of it. Who knows if we’ll be laughing or crying about it later, but at least for now we can laugh a little.
The Washington post has now updated the article to say that it was a hoax. It’s possible that there are nutters on both the left and right who would stoop to such low tactics but you would hope they would be a bit more subtle!
Garry,
I’m not puzzled. The guy intended to expose the gullibility of the press. Fact checking seems to be a long lost art, but Fox News still practices it. How embarrassed are the rest of the news outlets? Only the ones that still have shame are embarrassed.
Edward,
I think that’s a safe bet, but why does he want to do that?
Is he a Clinton supporter who wants to sustain the idea that “fake news won the election”?
Is he a Trump supporter who wants to de-legitimatize Trump protesters?
Is he just up to mischief, with no political agenda?
Does he plan to do anything with the names and other info he gets in response to his ads?
It seems to me that he went through a lot of trouble and expense to do this, and I’m curious about all his reasons.
Garry and all: Good journalists who specialize in this sort of stuff should be digging right now very hard to answer all of Garry’s questions about this guy and the advertisements. Most important of all, they should be digging to find out who this guy really is.
Sadly, I do not expect that to happen. The political wing of journalism is very corrupt and incompetent these days. And I include all cable stations, including Fox. They dug a little bit to find out that the guy was not telling us the truth about who he was, but they seem to have stopped their investigation there. Just because he was lying does not mean that he is a hoax. Not at all.
Garry asked: “I think that’s a safe bet, but why does he want to do that?”
I don’t know, and I may not care. He seemed to have had fun doing it, having a hard time keeping a straight face at times, but he got in a good smile near the end.
It didn’t cost him much money. He didn’t even bother to dress in a suit to do the Fox interview.
An interesting British read on Trump, much like my own, from Piers Morgan who I have not in the past had a very high opinion of. I now must give him two thumbs up.

As of this writing its about 15 hours to Trump, and just as important its about 15 hours to Obama vacating the presidency,. It all boils down to these next few hours that I have waited (and survived) for eight years. Thats a long time to wait.
13 hours and 20 minutes or so, to go!

With 12 hours to go, yet another delicate snowflake plea:

1 hour and 50 minutes to go and Trump is once again proven 100% correct!

The Mexicans really do send their murderers and drug dealers to the United States! Literally!
Have my C-span feed all ready to go.

(Cotour– if we want to crush the Cartel & bankrupt Mexico… abolish the DEA!)
Yow— leftist agitators are on a vandalism-fest in DC!
(and there is some crazy video from protesters attempting to disrupt the “DeploraBall,” last night.)
“Interstate travel in furtherance of a Riot, is a Federal crime.”
11:46, the invocation has occurred, and Allah or Mohamad has not been mentioned!
When during the prayer it was asked for God to protect Donald J. Trump as the new president I uncontrollably started to smile and laughed out loud, and a tear appeared in my eye.
Today is a good day.
(But now Charles Schumer speaks and he annoys me.)
Cotour–
Enjoyed the speech very much.
I would quibble with specific content, but I’m having too much FUN reveling in the Moment!
Conservative Review TV, is live-streaming today, >for free.
Currently, Michelle Malkin & Dan Bongino are engaged in constructive banter & DJT clips. (good stuff. They are enjoying the Moment, as well. ) Steven Crowder is coming up next for some humorous commentary…
