Readers!

The time has come for my annual short Thanksgiving/Christmas fund drive for Behind The Black. I must do this every year in order to make sure I have earned enough money to pay my bills.

For this two-week campaign, I am offering a special deal to encourage donations. Donations of $200 will get a free autographed copy of the new paperback edition of Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8, while donations of $250 will get a free autographed copy of the new hardback edition. If you desire a copy, make sure you provide me your address with your donation.

As I noted in July, the support of my readers through the years has given me the freedom and ability to analyze objectively the ongoing renaissance in space, as well as the cultural changes -- for good or ill -- that are happening across America. Fourteen years ago I wrote that SLS and Orion were a bad ideas, a waste of money, would be years behind schedule, and better replaced by commercial private enterprise. Only now does it appear that Washington might finally recognize this reality.

In 2020 when the world panicked over COVID I wrote that the panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Only in the past year have some of our so-called experts in the health field have begun to recognize these facts.

Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.

Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are four ways of doing so:

1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.

2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.

3. A Paypal Donation or subscription:

4. Donate by check, payable to Robert Zimmerman and mailed to

The Last Day

An evening pause: This short Israeli film seems pertinent as I leave for Israel again to visit family. The film was made before 2012, and attempts to portray a moment in the future.

When I first scheduled this, I suggested that people make sure they read the analysis at the youtube website. Youtube however has terminated this filmmaker’s account. I wonder why. Could it be because some from the Islamic world complained? Could it be that some within the google/youtube world didn’t like its message?

The video is still on youtube, however, posted by others. Freedom lives, even as some try to squelch it.

Hat tip Jim Mallamace.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The print edition can be purchased at Amazon. from any other book seller, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

–interestingly, if you try to watch this at the YouTube site itself, it’s tagged as age-restricted and they force you to sign in to view it.
I’d be interested if anyone else encountered this.

tangentially– I reference a lot of YouTube video links.
    >Everyone should be aware– whenever you right-click to copy a link at YouTube, you give Alphabet permission to “access your computer.”
    >Those are persistent cookies, and if you don’t delete them entirely, Alphabet will begin to “customize your web experience,” in all sorts of distorted ways.
Personally, I use CCleaner literally every 15 minutes while I’m on line. (Cleans my cache & all sorts of other junk) And for Windows in particular— your browser is open & running in the back-ground more than your realize. (Windows calls the Mothership every day & downloads all your “telemetry.” It’s for your own good, so nothing to see here… right!)

And while I’m at it— I just suffered through another huge, April cumulative-update for Windows, and the new Windows 10 “Creators Update” version is going to be pushed out soon.

  • Wayne: Once again I suggest you find an old computer (or buy a used one) and install Linux. You will quickly discover how much better a computer experience it is.

Truly powerful. A possibility all face but none more than those in Israel and maybe South Korea. Peace through strength.

    @Pratt
That’s how it is everywhere where arapes live. Not any less in Saudinavia, the feminist-islamic-climate politics state that occupies the area where I live. Terrorism has nothing at all to do with politics. It is the lifestyle of the arapes since a thousand years. Can’t get rid of it without getting rid of the arapes.

Let’s see now, 4 billion kilogram of oil produced in the world each year, is that right? And 3/4 of arapes is water. So at 50 kg each, 200 million or so arapes contain about a whole year of oil production in the world! If we cook and recycle them to become something useful.
-Heat up the oven again, Aribert! We’ve got a new customer.

My calculation above might be a bit off. We all miss Adolf Eichmann who took care of that logistics stuff. We’ll just add a few more this time to make up for the error bars. Is there an Eichmann museum in Israel? If I were prime minister of Israel I’d insist on all negotiation with the enemies, i.e. all neighbors as it is, would take place in the very hall where his gallows is preserved. Just with the knot untied to get rid of the corpse. Because nazis smell when they are dead too.

Seriously, I hope you enjoy your vacation. If anything I’d be interested in learning what the Israeli public thinks about Erdogan. To me it looks as if Turkey is become a new Iran. Maybe opposing Iran, but still a huge new source of problems. And some common interests as in exterminating all kurds (and the jews next?). Didn’t Israel and Turkey have good relations just a decade ago or so?
