John Cougar – Ain’t Even Done With The Night
An evening pause: Performed live 1981, with what I think is one of the strangest background dance line-up ever.
Hat tip Cotour.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The print edition can be purchased at Amazon. from any other book seller, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News
The costumes and dance moves of the background dancers seem reminiscent of the garb and stage moves of many all-male black singing groups of the 50’s and 60’s such as the Temptations. I suspect if Mr. Cougar/Mellencamp put on such a show today he’d be lynched on social media for “cultural appropriation.”
Dick–
Good stuff.
Mellencamp’s record label wasn’t sure how they wanted to market him, even at that stage of the game in1981.
If I recall correctly, his next album release was under his own name, and the rest as they say, was history.
I have never seen a more uncomfortable to watch and disjointed performance. The entire thing is strange to the max, from Melloncamps hair and dress and dance moves, to what ever that was going on behind him.
I suggested for its strangeness, just weird.
Very strange, particularly the end when they tried to put the red cape on him and he fell to the ground to avoid it. After three tries they gave up and he kept singing without missing a beat. Makes you feel uncomfortable for him.
