With CBS helping him, under no condition should Trump settle his $10 billion lawsuit against the network
Lying lefist propaganda, through and through
Don’t settle! In the fall Donald Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News, alleging the network interfered with the election by maliciously editing a 60 Minutes interview with vice president Kamala Harris to hide and improve her incoherent word salad answers, and it did so to aid her just days before the election. In February, when the actual transcripts of the interview were released, proving CBS’s misconduct, Trump expanded the lawsuit to include CBS News’s parent company, Paramount Global, which streamed the program.
Though some might argue the lawsuit rests on weak legal grounds, it seems that Trump’s complaint has some merit, especially since the leftist bias of the older alphabet news outlets (CBS, CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, PBS) has become so obvious in the past decade. These networks no longer even try to report the news fairly or with any accuracy. Instead, they twist every story to either promote the Democratic Party or slander the Republican Party.
That bias has caused these networks a lot of trouble in the courts in recent years, when others have sued them for defamation and slander. So far none of these lawsuits have been decided in the courts because in every case the networks realized if they didn’t settle, paying the litigants off handsomely, they would lose big. The most recent example was against CNN in January, when a jury found the network guilty of defamation, awarding a military veteran, Zachary Young, $5 million of compensatory damages. CBS had defamed Young in its reporting of his work to get Afghanistan refugees out of that country. Before the jury could determine the amount of punitive damages, however, CNN settled.
Later the foreman of the jury made it clear that CBS made a good decision settling, because the jury was quite eager to award Young anywhere from $50 to $100 million in punitive damages, the network’s malice being so clear.
This particular lawsuit illustrated clearly that the American public now recognizes the vicious and dishonest bias of these networks, and is quite willing to punish them for it. This alone is a strong reason Trump should not settle. It is also likely Trump has no reason to settle. Unlike Zachery Young as well as the others who have settled, Trump is not a private citizen with limited resources. He doesn’t need to settle so that he can go back to living his life normally. As a politician and president his normal life requires him to pursue the lawsuit to the very end.
This past week however Trump’s lawsuit was helped enormously by CBS itself, giving him more reasons to fight to the end. Yesterday CBS’s 60 Minutes show aired another ridiculous propaganda piece, attacking Trump’s effort to streamline the federal government by auditing its agencies, firing hundreds of thousands of extraneous workers, and canceling numerous absurd contracts that should never been issued in the first place.
The most absurd part of that 60 Minutes hit piece was when it went after Trump for shutting down the USAID foreign aid agency, firing almost everyone that worked there and freezing all of its programs and aid packages while a review was undertaken. The segment brought out two people to describe the “chaos” and cruelty of these actions, making it seem they were both USAID employees caught in the crossfire. In truth, this was a lie.
60 Minutes pulled in 2 comms consultants who were never actual employees of USAID and presented them as though they were longtime employees who were fired for lack of “loyalty.”
Trump defiant
Trump’s lawyers now have another example to cite of 60 Minutes falsely manipulating the facts to push a narrative hostile to Trump and his administration. They should definitely try to introduce these facts as part of their case.
And even if they are denied that right for valid legal reasons, it won’t matter. CBS has now repeatedly demonstrated its willingness to blatantly lie in order to damage Donald Trump and his administration. Even if this evidence is not presented in court during a defamation trial, the jurists are almost certainly going to be aware of this anti-Trump leftist pattern, as were the jurists on the CNN slander trial described above.
Or to put it another way, Trump should “Fight. Fight. Fight!”

While I imagine that most of those who would look at news media coverage objectively have already realized that CBS is very biased, this case has the potential to reach them and others with proof that CBS’s bias leads to blatantly fraudulent reporting.
CBS and 60 Minutes have been very biased for a very long time. Does anyone remember their report on the L5 Society in the mid-1970’s? The L5 Society was a grassroots group pushing hard for the industrialization of space, based on Gerry O’Neill’s vision of “space colonies” (i.e. large space stations at the Lagrange points, hence the name), lunar resources, and solar power to Earth. I was active in the society in the Boston area and it was a serious effort by engineers, students, lawyers, meeting at MIT’s Artificial Intelligence Lab. We took the 60 minutes coverage as a hit piece that treated us like flakes, with the coverage including some hippies gushing about how there could be a colony for “vegan lesbians”.
No longer a consumer of narrative-driven “journalism”, fact-based coverage on space and policy topics is hard to come by. Thanks to Bob for this blog, my first stop every day for actual news. Also kudos to Eric Berger, who somehow keeps it real in that cesspool known as Ars Technica.
I do wonder if this is just a “recent” MO of the leftmedia or if it’s been the NORM!
You would think the media would understand that they are PRIVILEGED to USE OUR AIRWAYS to send their lies! How awesome would it be for PRESIDENT TRUMP to win this case and as a result he would be HANDED a CHECK for TEN BILLION DOLLARS and then CBS have to sweat out a few months for the PUNITIVE AWARD to be determined? THEN, CBS should look forward to having an INDEPENDENT BOARD installed to assure they are TRUTHFUL in their reporting!!
IF they were smart, CBS would be temporarily suspending everyone involved in the Harris FRAUD until the case is resolved – if for no other reason than to prevent FURTHER damage! We can SEE they are NOT smart!
Jack O’Leary: Thank you for your kind words, and for your long LONG support as the first person who ever subscribed to Behind the Black, and has continued that support now for almost thirteen years.
I had not realized you were active in L5 in the mid-1970s in Boston. There is actually a chance we might have met, since I participated in some L5 activities in New York in the 1970s, then again in the 1990s.
Is there an archival recording of that 60 Mins episode with O’Neill?
I would love to watch it.
There are several old NSS vids available on y-tube.
But I do not see that one.
