Better not buy bottled water in Virginia: It will put you in jail.

Better not buy bottled water in Virginia: It will put you in jail.

When a half-dozen men and a woman in street clothes closed in on University of Virginia student Elizabeth Daly, 20, she and two roommates panicked.

That led to Daly spending a night and an afternoon in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. Her initial offense? Walking to her car with bottled water, cookie dough and ice cream just purchased from the Harris Teeter in the Barracks Road Shopping Center for a sorority benefit fundraiser.

A group of state Alcoholic Beverage Control agents clad in plainclothes approached her, suspecting the blue carton of LaCroix sparkling water to be a 12-pack of beer. Police say one of the agents jumped on the hood of her car. She says one drew a gun. Unsure of who they were, Daly tried to flee the darkened parking lot.

Thugs. What a bunch of thugs.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Yes they are thugs, this seems to be more and more pervasive as we go through this progression of this current administration. The IRS was happy to single out conservative and tea party 501 c4 organizations even though they say they were not ordered to do so from upon higher, much like the movie Beckett where the army knew King Henrys wants and did not need orders. As long as prosecutors allow this behavior by their underlings we are at risk!

Two words I use with distain: Gloria Allred.

  • Why is the drinking age still 21 in your crazy country?

Can vote, can’t drink, how does that make any sense to you?

Widespread civil disobedience doesn’t seem to do anything for this issue either.

If this is all that Virginia agents have to do, they are overstaffed. And they can start by firing these incompetent oafs.

On second thought, these agents were probably Virginia Tech grads.
