Had to read this because it sounded outrageous to me, but the as always the devil is in the details. Its not just that he collected rainwater, it is that, according to the Water Resources Dept., he built dams to divert water from running into the Big Butte River.
“…Harrington constructed dams to block a tributary to the Big Butte, which Medford uses for its water supply.” Which, if true, would be serious indeed. Harrington denies it.
Sounds like an issue for the courts.
Exactly why does he need the reservoirs and why three of them?
Is he farming? Does he really like fishing and wants his own lakes? Is he really thirsty?
If he needs the water for a living then maybe an exemption could be granted. Something could be worked out.
But if he just wants to because he claims he can then sorry buddy but it looks like your on shaky ground and just trying to make a point against your government.
Yeah, the whole thing sounds silly. In 2007 he was found to have illegally diverted Medford water, HE plead guilty, got probation for agreeing to unblock the tributaries. He did that. 3 years go by and he blocks them again.
I would be willing to bet nearly 100% of the citizens of Medford agree with the Water Resources Dept.
