Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The print edition can be purchased at Amazon. from any other book seller, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Jim Gaffigan – 4 Kids

An evening pause Some good stand-up comedy to lighten the first half of the week.

Hat tip Tim Vogel, who emailed to say “One of our friends sent this to us because we are having a 4th ourselves.”

Readers!

Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. Your support allows me the freedom and ability to analyze objectively the ongoing renaissance in space, as well as the cultural changes -- for good or ill -- that are happening across America. Fourteen years ago I wrote that SLS and Orion were a bad ideas, a waste of money, would be years behind schedule, and better replaced by commercial private enterprise. Only now does it appear that Washington might finally recognize this reality.

In 2020 when the world panicked over COVID I wrote that the panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Only in the past year have some of our so-called experts in the health field have begun to recognize these facts.

Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.

You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are four ways of doing so:

1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.

2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.

3. A Paypal Donation or subscription:

    Tim Vogel:
Hilarious! (and congrats on the forthcoming Child!)

-Only had 1 daughter & only have 1 g-daughter, myself. We tried consciously not to be those stereotypical helicopter-parents, but I really have no clue how it feels to have 2, 3, or 4 kids. We were “hyper-vigilant” for the first 2-3 years, but that gradually wore off.

Thanks, Wayne. We had our first 3 in California, and as Gaffigan mentioned, people start to look at you funny after 1 or 2, or they outright makes comments to you that that is just too many. We are back in the midwest now where people on average seem to appreciate it more.

Anyway, yes, it is easy to want to help the kids with everything and make sure no harm comes to them, but kids need adversity. We work hard to have them try most things themselves before we do help. And when they do fall down or hurt themselves, we give them a few moments to let them experience the situation on their own before helping. I will even ask them to do things that I know they can’t do just to get them to think a bit about how they might do it.

There is a good and funny series of commercials from one of the diaper companies that shows a mom after she has her first baby and then jumps forward to her after her second child. After the first child she makes anyone that wants to hold the baby sanitize themselves. After the second baby, while at an oil change shop, she basically thrusts her new baby into the greasy arms of a mechanic while she pays the bill. Its funny, slightly exagerrated, but basically true.

On the lighter side, for anyone that might appreciate this, our 4th one arrived today (10/11/16). A baby girl. All three kids are exited about their new sister. Everyone is healthy. All is well.

    TimArth–

Thank you, Wayne. Happy belated birthday!

    TimArth–
I like to think “it’s always October 11th,” somewhere in Space-Time geometry.

    >Daughters are cool. Only had the one so I am biased, but no complaints.

I’m a firm believer that everyone should own a Mint-Set or Proof-Set, from the year of their birth. (and, a local newspaper from the day.)
    >Check out the US Mint Silver Proof-Set for 2016. 13 coins total, & the dime, quarter, and half are 90% silver.
