Today’s blacklist story is a followup on one from April 2022, in which Jewish English professor at Linfield University in Oregon, Daniel Pollack-Pelzner, was fired without due process because he reported the sexual misconduct of four of the university’s ten trustees. Before they fired him however school officials, including its university president and chair of the board of trustees Miles Davis, spewed anti-Semetic comments against him, including joking about sending Jews to gas chambers.

Pollack-Pelzner has now gotten some financial satisfaction in the courts, though hardly justice.

Linfield University has agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by former Professor Daniel Pollack-Pelzner for $1,037,500 in compensation for emotional distress, lost wages, and attorney fees.

The University insists that it is not admitting guilt and only wants to avoid further loss of “time and energy from the mission of the institution.” If so, it found a weird way of doing it. They have litigated this weak case for two years and were compelled to reach a seven figure settlement.

Miles Davis remains as university president, however, and will suffer no personal financial cost for this incident. Nor has the university made any major personnel changes in response, except for the removal of Pollack-Pelzner, who no longer teaches there but has instead gotten a job as a visiting scholar at Portland State University, hardly a permanent position. Moreover, he had sued for $4 million, and settled for $1 million. Though Linfield was forced to pay him that money, it got off cheap.

Right now Linfield should go to the bottom of any list of prospective colleges high school students are considering. It has a board of trustees where 40% commit sexual misconduct and a administration that responses to this behavior by firing the whistle-blower. It is ranked by U.S. News 120 out of 210 liberal arts colleges, with a relatively mediocre overall score of 52 out of 100.

Essentially, the school is not a good place to go to get an education, unless you want to learn how to become a bigot. For example, from its own “diversity” webpage the school touts with pride how it favors minorities and women in its programs, based not on talent or school record but racial or sexual identity.

What matters to this school is your race and sex, and if you don’t belong to the right ones, you must go to the back of the bus, and like it. Nor is this guesswork, based on well documented-research [pdf]. Its leaders have created there a culture of hate, and remain in power with no interest in fixing it.
