Chinese Long March 6A upper stage breaks up into debris shortly after deploying satellites
Ground and satellite reconnaissance data now indicates that the upper stage of the Chinese Long March 6A rocket that on August 6 launched the 18 satellites in a proposed Chinese 14,000 satellite internet constellation broke up into numerous pieces shortly after deploying the satellites.
The detection was made by the company Slingshot Aerospace, which tracks orbital spacecraft looking for the appearance of this kind of space junk.
This is actually the second time recently that an upper stage of a Long March 6A has broken up shortly after launch. In December 2022 the same thing was detected following a November launch.
All told, this relatively new Chinese rocket has launched seven times, and has had its upper stage break up twice. Apparently, China not only doesn’t care if the lower stages of its many rockets crash on top of its own citizens, it is quite okay with littering near-earth orbital space with debris. It needs to fix the upper stage of this rocket now, so such break-ups no longer occur.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The print edition can be purchased at Amazon. from any other book seller, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

I’m guessing this won’t cause any delays in the flight schedule.
Journalists have the opportunity to ask questions of Chinese athletes when they win an Olympic medal. Have the CIA suggest to journalists to ask the athletes about Chinese government policy. In the ensuing uproar, direct the questions onto Chinese officials. They might welcome the chance to debate the west. Anyway, would be neat to have China explain what they are doing to prevent their orbital vehicles from creating space junk.
I wonder if this break up was not engineered and planned. As a way to keep their enemies from recovering enough to study their tech.
This story explains why the “fuel dump” videos captured recently were so unusual. (to me). In my original comments I had noted more than one object could be seen in the B&W video.
Original video:
https://youtu.be/C8E3PAkExrI
22:17 min
B&W video begins at 14:30
Multiple objects begin appearing ~15:30
Some commenters also mentioned unusual look to this “fuel dump” story.
here is a nightmare scenario … SpaceX has progressed with its Mars program and has sent colonists to the planet. A calamity occurs as an orbiting Starship explodes while being refueled. The RUD of all RUDs spews space junk far and wide. Launches world wide are grounded . SpaceX is liquidated to pay for damages done to China. The Mars colonists are doomed.
