Iran launches spy satellite

Iranian officials today confirmed the successful launch of its Qased rocket, placing a classifed Noor spy satellite into orbit.

The Space Force confirmed this announcement, tracking two objects (one likely the satellite and the other the upper stage) in a 442 by 456 kilometer orbit with a 60.0 degree inclination. That steep inclination will allow the satellite to cross over two thirds of the Earth’s surface.

This was Iran’s first launch in 2023, and third launch of this type spy satellite and rocket since 2020. The leaders in the 2023 launch race remain the same:

68 SpaceX
44 China
13 Russia
7 Rocket Lab
7 India

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Since we‘re at war with Iran, why don‘t we shoot the thing down? Paging General Kelly Lynch! Oh, wait, she‘s too busy watching out for her gay friends in the Space Force!

When you comment, you try not to look foolish. I was referring to the Air Force (or Space Force) general who admitted that her primary concern was not posting her gay subordinates to states which passed “anti-gay” legislation. Apparently it wasn‘t “Kelly Lynch” (whoever that is!) I just wish the new Space Force would shoot down things which threaten our nation, like chi-com spy balloons, which at 130,000 feet should be handled by the Space Force, not the Air Force.

Wasn’t that spy balloon at something like 60K feet? Or was there something else?
