SpaceX launches another 53 Starlink satellites
Capitalism in space: SpaceX today successfully launched another 53 Starlink satellites using its Falcon 9 rocket, the first stage successfully flying and landing for the sixth time.
That first stage had flown only three weeks ago, thus completing the fastest turnaround yet.
The leaders in the 2022 launch race:
17 SpaceX
12 China
5 Russia
2 ULA
2 Rocket Lab
The U.S. now leads China 24 to 12 in the national rankings.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Hey, Rogozin, how does that broomstick feel?
This never gets old.
What does get old however, is the announcer girl telling us, during every single launch, that kerosene produces soot.
It is absolutely amazing how routine this has become. Three week turnaround!
This also marks the first time SpaceX has executed six launches in the same month – and a new record on refurbishment turnaround, too. Just 21 days!
At these rates, The U.S. could have about 70 orbital launches this year, but China may have only around 40. SpaceX is on track for more than 50 launches, and is nicely ahead of China.
To draw from what Robert said in another post: this “demonstrates the priceless value of leaving ownership to American companies.”

Edward: Based on a more recent statement from SpaceX, they are now aiming for 60 launches this year. All told, U.S. companies have predicted a total of 108 launches in ’22. I think it very likely that the total will easily top 70, and could even approach 100.
Robert,
For SpaceX to reach 60 they will have to increase their cadence by 25% from now to the end of the year. This may be a stretch goal for themselves, but I think we will be impressed enough for them to reach 52.
Edward: I agree.
