Readers!

My July fund-raising campaign to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary since I began Behind the Black is now over. I want to thank all those who so generously donated or subscribed, especially those who have become regular supporters. I can't do this without your help. I also find it increasingly hard to express how much your support means to me. God bless you all!

The donations during this year's campaign were sadly less than previous years, but for this I blame myself. I am tired of begging for money, and so I put up the campaign announcement at the start of the month but had no desire to update it weekly to encourage more donations, as I have done in past years. This lack of begging likely contributed to the drop in donations.

No matter. I am here, and here I intend to stay. If you like what I do and have not yet donated or subscribed, please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are four ways of doing so:

1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.

2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.

3. A Paypal Donation or subscription:

4. Donate by check, payable to Robert Zimmerman and mailed to

Trump once again moves Space Force HQ from Colorado to Alabama

During his first term as president, Donald Trump attempted to move the headquarters of the Space Force Colorado to Alabama. That move, announced in January 2021, never happened, first because it came so late in his term and second because Biden had no interest in making it happen and eventually rescinded it in 2023.

Today Trump reinstated that decision, once again announcing that the Space Force headquarters will move to Huntsville, Alabama.

The politics for this change have been and will continue to be complicated. Alabama’s lower cost of living would save the government money, but the defense industry is also well clustered in Colorado due to the military’s space operations that have been there for many decades.

In general I have never quite understood Trump’s desire to do this. I suspect there are some quid pro quo agreements in the background with Alabama politicians: “If you bring the Space Force to Alabama, Mr. Trump, we will back you on your other plans.” Then again, Trump might simply want to punish the increasingly leftist haven of Colorado.

Either way, it is now likely to finally happen. Trump 47 has been moving fast on all his initiatives, and is aided in this by a staff that is largely supportive (unlike during Trump 45).

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The print edition can be purchased at Amazon or from any other book seller. If you want an autographed copy the price is $60 for the hardback and $45 for the paperback, plus $8 shipping for each. Go here for purchasing details. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

It’s the payoff to cancel Artemis program. It keeps Huntsville alive and rocket scientists employed without having to relocate. Now AL congress will support cancellation of boondoggle.

  • Tom Biggar: YES! Why didn’t I think of this? Of course.

Well I hope that’s the reason.

    THIS IS VERY SIGNIFICANT

“TDA is a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, operating under the control of Nicolas Maduro, responsible for mass murder, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, and acts of violence and terror across the United States and Western Hemisphere,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.”

This is different, an extreme significant warning: https://nypost.com/2025/09/02/world-news/footage-shows-us-strike-that-obliterated-drug-carrying-boat-off-venezuela-killing-11-tda-narcoterrorists/

This is a drastic message sent by the president specifically to the South American operations in the various country’s ferrying drugs into America. A message designed to instill great fear of the existential kind.

An American administration willing to take such extreme offshore actions is a very different animal than has existed before in the world. Previously so many beaks were being wetted both in the underworld and within certain trickle-down government associated agencies that finance their day-to-day operations and their clandestine operations in let’s say creative ways.

For four years the previous administration run by the desperate, treasonous “progressive” Democrat party machine flooded America with all kinds of operators from these countries for their own strategic political command and control reasons, and many are still here.

What might the repercussions be related to such extreme administration actions within America? Whatever that potential might be this administration is ending business as usual and is establishing an entirely new American global power structure paradigm.

From traitors within our country and our own government who were actively steering us down the road to literally surrendering and delivering America and its sovereignty to enemies like the Globalists in the U.N., the EU and the WEF this event today in the Carribean sea is a clear unmistakable signal to all that things are going to be very different in the world. If you had not got that memo before this one is unmistakable.

Sobering, President Donald J. Trump is not an ambiguous wishy-washy president. No one wants the full spectrum and potential of American military assets actively focused and looking for them, especially when they have orders to kill. Ask the Iranian Mulla’s.

I am not sure how effective this kind of extreme action will be with either President Xi or President Putin, but it will for sure have its effects on all concerned. Stay tuned and stand by.

This should make Jeff Wright happy, for a change!

  • There has to be some reason for this. Space Command has been in Colorado for so long that entire communities will be gutted with this move. Of course it will take a long time and a good deal of money will be wasted and it might get reversed by the next president.

  • pzatchok

I think their head quarters should be in Area 51.

Not all solders work in a headquarters.

  • Doubting Thomas

Tom Biggar: I hope you are right. Cancellation of Artemis – Oh my what a stroke of luck!

  • Sounds like they moved the former USSPACECOM (current SPACECOM) HQ to Huntsville. The former AFSPACECOM in Building 1 at Pete Field has transformed into Space Operations Command (SPoC). Falcon and Cheyenne Mountain still exist, though the reporting chain has changed a bit over the years. NORAD is still located at Pete.

The former USSPACECOM component commands AFSPACECOM (Pete Field), Army Space Command (Redstone Army Arsenal) and Naval Space Command (Dahlgren, VA) all were reorganized and renamed in 1992, again in 2002 when SPACECOM was disestablished and functions merged into USSTRATCOM. Most recent reorg was 2019 with the establishment of Space Force.

At the time (1985 – 1992), USSPACECOM occupied a single building on Pete Field. Yeah, it is a move, but not a big one.

Politically, Trump is rewarding friends in a very red state (AL) while punishing enemies in a very blue one (CO).

  • Chris L

Something left unsaid but I think played a part in the decision – Colorado has Legal Pot, Alabama does not. I think the military would rather have Space Cadets than Spaced Out Cadets.

  • Matthew DeLuca

Plus, Colorado is becoming increasingly Californicated. You don’t want to put critical national security functions in a place like that if you don’t absolutely have to.

  • Jeff Wright

What will happen is that SLS will be killed, and Space Forced moved back to Colorado anyway.

After what was done to ABMA–I trust no one.

  • David Ross

If I used Head And Shoulders, entire communities of dandruff-inducing fungi would be gutted.

  • schwit

Use this as an opportunity to move the Dept of Interior to Colorado.

The lands the DOI regulates are mostly out west.
This move would not infect a red state with blue voters.
It would move jobs out of the DC area or reduce staff as some don’t want to move.
