“A lot of investment in green technology has been a giant scam, if well intentioned.”
“A lot of investment in green technology has been a giant scam, if well intentioned.”
The quote, and entire interview, are significant for two reasons. First, the interview is seeped with many skeptical opinions about human caused global warming, is very critical of that movement’s effort to politicize science, and the person being interviewed is James Lovelock, the founder of of the concept of Gaia, a former strong advocate of global warming but now a skeptic.
Most significant however is where the interview is published. It is in Nature, one of the most important and influential science journals, which previously has been aggressively pushing global warming politics for years. That they allowed these politically incorrect opinions within their walls and then broadcast them to their readers signals a major cultural shift within the science community. It is beginning to be acceptable to be a skeptic again!
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

To the leftist, he’s just another idiot to be discarded now that he is no longer useful. Still, it is a surprise from Nature. Obviously, someone was asleep at the switch.
“The thing we’ve all forgotten is the heat storage of the ocean — it’s a thousand times greater than the atmosphere and the surface. You can’t change that very rapidly.”
He suggests that the expected heat is “hiding” in the oceans. That has become a standard argument, lately. But why don’t climatologists and the public suspect that the recent heating may have been due to the ocean giving up some of its heat, rather than human activity being the cause? The oceans cannot keep heating up forever, at some point they must give up that heat, otherwise they would have boiled away billions of years ago.
The ocean hypothesis is a two edged sword. If it is possible that the oceans are the reason that the Earth isn’t heating right now, it could be just as possible that they are the reason (not man) that the Earth was heating between the years ~1970 and ~2000.
I wonder if there will be fallout on Nature for publishing this.
Anyway good to see cracks in the wall put up by the GW faithful.
(Maybe there are still some journal editors with more common sense than school administrators!)
Agree that the big story is that Nature would even publish it. Its perhaps a hopeful sign that the millennium has come. ;)
