Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The print edition can be purchased at Amazon. from any other book seller, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Nationwide analysis suggests masks increased the spread of COVID-19

WHO's do's and don't's for mask use
For the full images, go here and here.

A analysis of all fifty states suggests the mandate to wear masks might have actually increased the spread of COVID-19 rather than reduced it.

They studied the number of cases over a 229-day period from May 1 through Dec. 15 and divided the results of the two study groups by days with mask mandates and days without mask mandates. The non-mandate data group includes both states that never had a mandate and those that did at some point, but data set included only the days they did not have a mask mandate.

The results: When comparing states with mandates vs. those without, or periods of times within a state with a mandate vs. without, there is absolutely no evidence the mask mandate worked to slow the spread one iota. In total, in the states that had a mandate in effect, there were 9,605,256 confirmed COVID cases over 5,907 total days, an average of 27 cases per 100,000 per day. When states did not have a statewide order (which includes the states that never had them and the period of time masking states did not have the mandate in place) there were 5,781,716 cases over 5,772 total days, averaging 17 cases per 100,000 people per day.

The reverse correlation between periods of masking and non-masking is remarkable.

That’s right. With mandates in place states say 10 more cases per 100K population. [emphasis mine]

It is very important to make it clear that this result has many uncertainties. It also is probably telling us more about the widespread improper use of masks that the mandates encourage and in fact literally require than the usefulness of masks when used properly.

Under the mandates, everyone uses and reuses the same mask, wearing it continuously for hours, or if not, putting it on and off and storing it in an unsanitary manner in-between. People also touch the mask continuously, and allow it to get wet and dirty without a second thought.

As the above WHO graph (that I have repeatedly posted) bluntly notes, doing this actually makes the mask a pathogen bomb that you wear on your face. The data of the above report reinforces this fact. That this reality has also been documented by scientific research and common sense for more than a century should also carry some weight as well. Sadly, in today’s society it does not.

I have repeatedly agreed that it is likely true that if everyone wore the right kind of masks, and wore them properly, for short periods and only when exposed to a symptomatic individual or when symptomatic themselves and in the presence of others, than maybe, maybe, masks would have a benefit. (Note that the data now confirms that only symptomatic individuals can infect others, and that if you have no symptoms you are almost certainly not going to spread the disease to others.)

Right now, mask mandates are likely causing more harm than good, and are really nothing more than feel-good nonsense that are being imposed by the petty dictators and control freaks of our society not to reduce the spread of disease but to increase the spread of their totalitarian power. If you go along, than you deserve the oppression you are certainly going to experience in the coming years.

As well as the increased likelihood that you will also get sick.

Fourteen years ago I wrote that SLS and Orion were a bad ideas, a waste of money, would be years behind schedule, and better replaced by commercial private enterprise. Only now does it appear that Washington might finally recognize this reality.

In 2020 when the world panicked over COVID I wrote that the panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Only in the past year have some of our so-called experts in the health field have begun to recognize these facts.

The study shows a 59% increase in cases when masks are used. I should have said “misused.” Many states have required far mask use but they have not supplied enough masks to allow the public to use masks as the World Health Organization recommends for safe usage. Instead, “face diaper” is a much more appropriate descriptor for what the staters call “face masks.” The sanitary conditions are better matched.

More than the misuse and abuse of mask usage, The WHO is begging governments to stop their lockdowns:
    https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/who-official-urges-world-leaders-to-stop-using-lockdowns-as-primary-virus-control-method/ar-BB19TBUo

“We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,” Dr. David Nabarro said to The Spectator’s Andrew Neil. “The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.” Nabarro went on to point out several of the negative consequences lockdowns have caused across the world, including devastating tourism industries and increased hunger and poverty.

Didn’t we in the U.S. agree to a short-term lockdown in order to reduce the load on hospitals and other medical facilities? That excuse is not even on the list of justifications. The WHO has finally recognized what the rest of us realized at the start of the lockdown, shutdown, smackdown, Great Oppression. The collateral damage is worse than the disease.

“Look what’s happened to smallholder farmers all over the world. … Look what’s happening to poverty levels. It seems that we may well have a doubling of world poverty by next year. We may well have at least a doubling of child malnutrition.” [ellipsis in original]

Merry Christmas, all (although a day late for Lee Stevenson). Here’s to a mask-free, lockdown-free, healthy 2021.

  • janyuary

Edward, wonderful … diapers indeed. How many don’t wear masks because they’re too prone to runny nose from weeping more than usual, for example at the sight of a lonely old person sitting alone, distant, alienated from sound or embrace at this time of year, and especially little kids in masks clinging fearfully to mama, and one can only hope they grow up with a healthy contempt for their elders, and how good is that? Oh well. This too shall pass.

  • Milwaukee

Has anyone looked to see if states increased their ICU capacity?

  • archie

There are better ways to analyze that data statistically and I am wondering why those methods haven’t been used? You don’t need to categorize the data at all, that just adds more uncertainty. How about a linear regression, principle components analysis, Kruskal-Wallis, ANOVA, and probably another bunch of tests I am forgetting.

  • Bob Smith

The CDC published a summary of about 10 studies in May that concluded there is no statistically significant benefit to wearing masks as a means to avoid respiratory virus infections. Then Robert Redfield (head of CDC), ignoring what they had just published, claimed in June that masks are better than vaccines. Oh so funny.

The Navy published a study which also showed that masks aren’t effective, and they were doing a lot more than just masks. You can be certain that a bunch of soldiers in a tightly controlled study like this were wearing masks correctly.

I don’t trust the new studies just put out claiming masks offer a significant benefit. There is too much political pressure to come to the “correct” conclusion, and they all seem focused on measures of stopping airborne droplets, rather than on actual infections. That is, they claim “look the masks stop droplets so they must be good”. That’s nice, but that’s the wrong thing to be measuring.

  • The data is not very easy to tease out, but the timing of mask mandates is often just before a big surge so even if they are effective, it might not show in the statistics.

A so-called mask which is a piece of cotton worn loosely with a big gap around the nose seems more stage prop than science to me. I had my tailor make a couple thousand masks out of two-ply N99 fabric (for N100-level filtering if you wear it tight enough) that had ties instead of elastic, a copper nose piece and yarn inside the outer ring to help seal the mask to the face using a design from University of Florida to convert N99 instrument tray covers and surgical drape. https://anest.ufl.edu/clinical-divisions/mask-alternative/ That may have more a chance of working. Still selling them on Etsy, one version of 1-ply that’s 2/$5.

  • Not at all surprising. One additional uncertainty is that the term “case” acquired a drastically expanded definition over the period of the study. And that expanded definition was exploited by government officials to justify more useless mask mandates.

  • Kennedy

I agree with the conclusion that masks are not a solution – especially cloth masks worn improperly. But the data analysis is deeply flawed – mask mandates are put in place when new cases are increasing rapidly. The fact that there are more new cases when mandates are in plan than when they are not thus tells us very little, other than than that mask mandates are not an “off” with that stops the spread of the virus. But we really don’t know if the speed would be less, more, or the d]same absent those mandates.

  • Tomf

Not wearing masks reduced infections by a half
    http://stan-heretic.blogspot.com/2020/11/not-wearing-surgical-masks-reduced.html

This link summarizes some studies on the effectiveness of masks. It surprised me.

  • Kathy Leicester

“It is very important to make it clear that this result has many uncertainties. It also is probably telling us more about the widespread improper use of masks that the mandates encourage and in fact literally require than the usefulness of masks when used properly.”

You cannot be that mistaken. You just can’t be that wrong. The rest of the article is actual. news, well done.

THERE IS NO PROPER USE OF MASKS IN THE PUBLIC SPHERE. NONE.

    There. Fixed it for everyone.

  • janyuary

Kathy: THERE IS NO PROPER USE OF MASKS IN THE PUBLIC SPHERE. NONE.

Thank you for stating it so succinctly.

  • SteveD

‘It is very important to make it clear that this result has many uncertainties.’

This is not a well thought out study. Places with more transmission are more likely to institute mask mandates. This probably accounts for correlation.

‘As the above WHO graph (that I have repeatedly posted) bluntly notes, doing this actually makes the mask a pathogen bomb that you wear on your face.’

This is something that I can’t seem to get through to people. Respiratory viruses are not generally spread from surfaces, so that pathogen bomb may be composed of bacteria or gastrointestinal viruses and NOT respiratory viruses which are not going to infect you from a surface.

Numerous RCT studies and resulting meta-studies (real science) have NOT shown any significant increase or decrease in transmission of either influenza or CoVid19 linked to mask wearing (or sanitation for that matter), although more often than not masks are associated with slight trends towards lower transmission. The recent study in Denmark which is the best ever done on CoVid19 used 3-layers masks (and likely mostly motivated participants) and still could not find any significant association.

  • Scratch Enhead

Isn’t Covid present in the saliva of a positive person?
Don’t masks stop spittle from expelling onto surfaces, where the virus can survive for a while?
Can’t other people get Covid if they touch that residue, then touch their nose?

  • Scratch Enhead: The simple answer to your questions is no. First spittle does not need a mask to stop it. All one has to do is cover your mouth or turn away when you cough or sneeze. I think you might remember your parents telling you that many times when you were a child.

Second, even if the virus is expelled onto a surface, it is only thought to be infectious for a very short time, and even then, you’d have to touch it and then touch your face or nose. Seems to me you might wipe it up, but the first thing you’d do then is wash your hands.

Common sense here solves the problem, instead of an insane edict by control freaks to put muzzles on every human being wherever they go, forever.

  • Marcus

The only issue I see here is someone publishing such worthless analysis. May as well publish any of a billion other correlations and pretend that they are meaningful.

Robert, if you treated this information the same way you do scientific space news, you’d probably ignore it, but if you mentioned it it would only be to criticize. I guess it did push my buttons enough to get me commenting…

Sorry for the negative take, merry Christmas!

  • Edward

Bob Smith wrote: “I don’t trust the new studies just put out claiming masks offer a significant benefit. There is too much political pressure to come to the “correct” conclusion, …

It is sometimes called Lysenkoism. The science follows what the politicians want, and often there is some kind of incentive or punishment, such as government funding for those who support government policy with their “scientific conclusions.” In the Soviet Union, scientists who disagreed might be dismissed, imprisoned, or even executed. There are several government officials and laymen who make similar calls for those who disagree with government directives. One politician even wanted to try people for murder if they didn’t wear a face mask/face diaper.

  • Lee Stevenson

I remain ambiguous about masks, as I have said before, correctly used, in the right environment I can see the benefit ( I will now wear one on my commute to and from work on a crowded train…. And try to use it correctly ).
My reason for posting here tho is to state I lost another acquaintance today… No one I knew very well, but he was in my social circle. That’s 2 dead, both under 60, 2 hospitalised and recovered, my father 82, and a work colleague, 38.
Coronid is ripping thru Stockholm like a steam train… Admittedly I also know dozens of positive cases that have had symptoms from nothing to bad flu ( myself included… Even tho I’m in the “high risk” group ), however I think it’s time to stop ignoring the seriousness of this virus. It’s killed 2 people I know, and put 2 more into the ICU. This is not another seasonal flu. It’s deadly, and not just to the old and those in the high risk groups. I’m pleased for those communities that have avoided the worst it can offer, but from where I am standing it’s much worse than the majority of the patrons here believe. ( You included Bob. When a few of the people you know die, perhaps you will change your opinion)

  • janyuary

    eddie, Mencken sure saw clearly.

We are not headed toward a time of lawlessness. We are experiencing it now. As I go about my thwarted day, my week, my month, in lockdown and watch my community slowly dying, and people alienating themselves from each other, reporting on their neighbors, all based on the fact that after a year of shutdowns, in our county less than three 100ths of one percent, >.003%, have died from this disease that makes those who get it somewhat sick — I know two people first-hand now, known personally to me, one in her 30s and the other in his 50s, who feared getting it, got it, and said it was medium bad flu. Stop what spread?

It makes the studies and the data and all of the rest, hamster wheels.

  • David M. Cook

@Lee Steveson Sir, you are using emotion instead of logic. Two deaths & two hospital ICU stays mean very little when comparing statistics. Your use of the phrase “steam train” sounds bad, but a modern Diesel-electric locomotive is much more powerful. I am truly sorry for your lost friends, but please try to avoid emotional responses & stick to logic. That‘s what makes this site so effective, informative & enjoyable to visit.

  • David K

@Lee Steveson If you are still working in the office and are forced to take public transportation rather than drive alone in your personal car, please take whatever precautions that you think make sense.

For some of us forced to work from home and self quarantine for the last nine months. it just seems crazy that we cannot have a small family gathering over the new year when literally none of us have gone outside the house except to take the trash out or go to a grocery store (while wearing a mask).

  • Lee Stevenson

@ David & David….. I know it’s a logical fallacy to take personal experience over statistical evidence, but it’s hard to ignore when people you know start dying of something I also believed was no worse than the seasonal flu. ( My personal experience with Covid was nothing compared to a flu I had in 1998, when I genuinely thought I was going to die!). One of the strangest things about Covid is the unpredictably of its impact on the body.
And regarding my daily commute, I do not own a car, as I live in an urban environment with fantastic public transportation, and although still crowded, it’s much less so these days…. Regarding working from home, I did ask our MD if I could, but he pointed out it’s kinda hard to drive a forklift or weld an exhaust system ( I have a diverse job!) from distance. ;-)

My 5 year old was forced to wear a muzzle on a plane ride this week even though he said he couldn’t breathe in it. I had him take it off unless the air waitress saw him, but said said air waitress was especially diligent in checking him. So he threw up. Twice. Kid never has gotten air/sea/car sick in his short life. The overpaid air waitress who’s salary is paid by both my tax dollars and my after tax income finally relented, perhaps due to not wanting to get sued but certainly not for compassionate reasons.

    To hell with you tyrants.

The vast majority of what any government agency puts out is mostly spin and managing the masses.

    https://populist.press/fauci-admits-hes-been-lying-since-january/

Use your common sense, if you still trust yourself after being made crazy by these political operatives in government who have many interests and most of those interests IMO are self interests. Like who is going to hire me after my gig here?

I just listened to, Patrick Burn being interviewed related to the election fraud. He is the founder of Overstock .com, he was a consultant to the president just last week where he pointed out both Mark Meadows and pat Cippalone as being self interested in attempting to get the president to concede. The meeting in the White House last week was apparently an intense shout fest.

He states plainly, and he is a computer security expert, that the election was without doubt fraudulent, and he stated that he was offered a $1 billion with a “B” bribe by deep state operatives to not get involved with the election “Issues”.

Politicians left to themselves and without true leadership will serve their own interests.

Trump is a true and strong leader and is exactly what is needed in Washington because Washington is filled with politicians left to fulfilling their own interests. What law firm will I go to?, What corporation will hire me and pay me 7 figures?, If I am caught up in Trump not conceding then I will be on “The list” and I will not work here if and when a Biden administration is installed.

Its all just the rats scrambling to seeing where they will land when the ship sinks. And at this point its Mike Pence and several other patriots that are in charge of making sure the ship does not sink. And if they are successful then we will all know who the run of the mill rats are in Washington and they will receive their just desserts. What will Mike Pence do?

Rats need competent and strong visionary leadership. Do you think that Joe Biden is a strong leader? Or is Joe Biden just one of them and will do for his kind just like he has done for his family for the last 47 years as a Washington insider?

What do you think he is?

Visiting the family and staying away from the news the last few days. Restful.
While visiting an elderly cousin at an assisted living facility with my brother and two of my sisters, my elder sister (10 years older than me) was struggling to breathe through her blue mask, wet with condensation. I told her we’re outside, take it off. She immediately began to recover and told me that at her last doctors appointment, with masks required, she was having similar problems. Her oxygen levels were between 75 and 80 and her heart rate was rapid.
Her doctor said let’s try this and took off her mask. Her oxygen levels rose to 95 and her heart rate dropped to normal. Breathing in her mask was like breathing in a paper bag.

Meanwhile, I heard they authorized hydroxychloroquine for use, particularly with azithromycin. Before I could look up the article, they revised their authorization with a odd worded excuse.

“The proposal argued that the AMA’s position calling on doctors to stop prescribing hydroxychloroquine contradicts the policy that the AMA later reaffirmed. The AMA, however, rejected that argument.
In other words, the claims were based on a proposal that was not adopted”

60% of small businesses will never reopen. What’s the chances that government workers will be laid off if there’s no budget? Most of them have jobs regulating the same small businesses that no longer exist…
Bernie Sanders says to sign the 5,000 page document, you don’t need to read it, you can add $2000 per household later…
Yeah we heard that one before…

The numbers keep changing but I heard 80% of the spending is going to foreign governments. (And there’s a clause in the bill that prevents trump from using any “emergency action” because of the proven fraudulent voting machines and mail in ballots)

Increased spending? Here’s a debt clock based on current projections. Were we will be in four years. Get used to saying quadrillion…

    The end of capitalism.

    Good stuff!

Why am I not surprised that hydroxychloroquine is made in Taiwan?
(tangentially– 90% of all ibuprofen is made in China. What could possibly go wrong with that scenario?)

    Max:

In order to, “Build Back Batter”, or to establish a “Great Reset”, you first must destroy and raze what was in order to “Build Back Better”.

What better way to accomplish this goal in a wholesale manner than during a mass pandemic where through government mandates during this “emergency” just happens to destroy a good percentage of the existing small individually owned businesses thus making them dependent on that government. (The corner stone of Marxist Socialism) And the “Emergency” catalyst is coincidentally sent into the world by the one country that will inherit what is built back. And of course “Better” is in the eye of the beholder.

Trust them, they know what’s best.

(And the likes of, Jeff F will not able to detect any of this either, just more conspiracies. In the future he and his kind will deserve what may come to pass, and not me and the many other delusional “Conspiracy theorists” )

Trump must go, and that is exactly why he must stay.

Bill DeBlasio, doing his best work right now.

(A disgrace of a human being IMO. I wonder if Jeff F can detect what is underway in NYC with all of the shootings as a result of bail reform and the mandatory release of violent criminals onto the street and “defunding ” the police? That seems very real to me. All of course supported and implemented by the Democrats.)

Some ask: “What is with this guy, he is the worst mayor in New York City history”. And that is not at all what he sees himself as, he is doing his best work, “Redistributing other peoples wealth”.

And its funny, I can not find anyone who will admit that they voted for him.

Trump has work out a deal with Bernie Sanders, he has sold us out, run out the clock then quit the game before the finish line. “”he just signed the 5000 page bill”” nobody has read. His daughter is performing the tasks of the new elite, (in the YouTube video I posted earlier) his legacy will live on. Undoubtedly the changes that are now law will change our entire economic structure, and the way we live. (The patriot act was only 2000 pages) People renting “cannot be evicted”, under property laws “that is not legal”, so we must have new property laws? Or new masters. Either way, when the fundamental reason for a constitution to have a “rule of law” concerning the property rights is ignored, you know that your personal rights and your personal property WILL be ignored as well. If no just compensation is offered, then property rights is void. water rights as well, a farmer is nothing without his water. In Utah, dominion voting machines authorized many changes to our constitution including water rights to all cities being transferred to… We’re not even sure. (Utah grew faster than any other state, 20% water in the desert is life)
Expect universal income, food rationing, and how many people per household… I mean how many rooms in your household can fit more people…
Personal wealth will disappear as the banks begin disappearing with it. How much the governors/government spends is irrelevant because it will receive according to its need.
Nearly everyone has been tissue typed, breeding/having children will be a privilege, Covid tracing knows where you are at all times, as money is phased out, (GIRA). Dismantling the value system, the authorization to spend new money will be carefully monitored according to your social score. And as trumps daughter said in the YouTube video, the public schools will be in partnership with corporations to create the workers we need for our future, starting from age 0 (AI in the crib?)

Jupiter and Saturn have aligned and began a new generation, the new age. I fear it’s the “dark age” that Zimmerman has been warning us about.
I kept wondering how the left/progressives could be so bold to call openly for punishing the Trump supporters. All this time I thought the cameras were recording those who we’re rioting, breaking windows, looting stores… that justice was coming. They were actually testing us to find who the troublemakers will be when they have a choice between right and wrong. Looters aren’t a threat, useless eaters/canon fodder.
It’s the “superman” in the enemys heart that they’re looking for… Truth, justice, and the American way. This is what they must kill to make their new society have a chance at working. They’ve already begun to erase history, statues, re-writing a form of the truth to teach a lie… History has always been rewritten by the victors. The next step is the “cleansing”, perhaps what the vaccination modified RNA shots are doing right now. Tear it all down-burn it all down-build back better… like we had in the 19th century with no carbon footprint. (with every breath you exhale carbon dioxide, that’s the only excuse a fanatic needs to rub you out)

I have to end on a good note. A mars colony is in their platform. Yes, it is.
I can’t help but wonder, like AI chips implanted in the skull – kind of concessions that Elon musk must’ve made to keep his dream alive. He is a valuable resource.

The great economic recovery act (GIRA) is the wrong one. My bad.

This is the/a new money, digital wallets. Introduced in Congress but not voted on. Don’t know if it’s in the new budget that Trump just signed.

There’s always the LaRouche pack which dives into the minutia. Very long article examines every nook cranny and crevice looking at the money issue from all angles. With a magnifying glass. As my grandson would say “Big Brain” stuff.

    We’re DONE With Masks!

    Max:

I really can not find much in the big picture that I do not agree with you on here.

The ONLY potential for some degree of optimism is the coming Jan 6th meeting of the Congress when we see who has the stones to recognize and call it all out a do what must be done.

That date is the moment of truth for America and its Constitution as formulated.

Does America survive or suffer a slow death and become a U.N. vassal Globalist state?

    9 days to Armageddon?

“Armageddon, (probably Hebrew: “Hill of Megiddo”), in the New Testament, place where the kings of the earth under demonic leadership will wage war on the forces of God at the end of history. “

Questioner: That video was the scariest thing I have watched in a long time. The sole sane person in the camera’s eye might be done with the masks just like me, but the other half-dozen masked people there apparently are still embracing fear of something that has left standing 99.9-plus percent of the national population being “ravaged.”

It is plain, sheer, pure lunacy to deny the arithmetic and believe instead politicians and doctors with money and reputation on the line. But arithmetic is like Superman: it always tells the truth. People are hysterical and this video proves that it is beyond peaceful resolution. C19 believers must be slapped hard to snap out of a state of panic that has now become deadly dangerous to all of us. No more Mr. Nice Guy tolerating or “respecting” their fear. I hold it and them in contempt, just like that smart, sane woman in the video.

  • janyuary

Max: “While visiting an elderly cousin at an assisted living facility … my elder sister (10 years older than me) was struggling to breathe through her blue mask, wet with condensation.
Breathing in her mask was like breathing in a paper bag.”

This is threatening millions of Americans at this very moment, the toxic effects of wearing masks. And all this danger and reckless tyranny in the face of a “pandemic” that after a year, has left standing 99.9-plus percent of the population it is purportedly “ravaging.”

A president who was a leader, a president worth fighting for, would have called this, publicly and clearly on every forum possible, for what it was from the start and he’d have stood strong like an oak, because the arithmetic has held steady all along.

Had a true liberty and truth-respecting president stuck to the arithmetic instead of fear tactics, those of us who are like the woman in that really frightening video linked by Questioner, would have moral support.

Ultimately the wheat is separating from the chaff. People are choosing sides now and the two major political parties are lost when it comes to the right of self ownership and rule of law. Placating evil will always have a bad outcome, and I remove myself from those willing to placate evil because they’re afraid of hurting other people’s feelings.

    janyuary:

I fully agree with you. Together with the young lady I really want to get to know, we form a team in spirit that does not submit to this mask madness! No matter how many still fall victim to that madness. Are we three stronger than Trump, who gave in to the pressure in the end?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but due to unmasked family commitments I have not had chance to comment.
I find the level of venom disturbing in the comments here…. The subject of masks is not a zero sum game! No doubt there is much stupidity regarding there use… I see guys alone in a car wearing them, or someone walking down the other side of the road alone, but there is some genuine science regarding the benefit of masks correctly used in crowded urban environments. ( And I’m willing to bet a bottle of decent scotch whisky that no one here lives in a crowded urban environment!)
I am not a sheeple rule follower, but I am a follower of science, and it seems to me the rules, ( or recommendation over here ) seem to me to be aimed at the crowded areas, and in that context, they make sense. However could any city in the US mandate mask use on public transport without including the rest of the county or state, or however you guys draw your borders? It seems to me that most of the posters here are permanently angry about something, something that takes away your rights to freedom, and the God given right to be as much of an ass hat as you like.
As I have said before, I’m seeing this bloody virus ripping rip thru my very place of work right now… A 29 year old is now off work, tested positive over Xmas, currently he’s doing ok, but feeling like crap… ( He’s one of the several..) Flu has never done this in my lifetime, flu has never killed anyone I know, indeed flu never hospitalised anyone I know, unfortunately I cannot say the same about this virus. You guys who sit in already “socially distanced” environments have very little knowledge about the real impact this is having in areas where “social distancing” is not possible.
All that said, I’m still very skeptical about the benefits of “lock down”…. If it reduces the spread to the point of being beneficial to the economy, I guess it’s worth it to any country as a whole. If it doesn’t, then it’s just creating misery and poverty for no reason. My opinion is still waiting for the numbers.
One thing I do have an opinion on, or at least a question, is why this venom? ALL our governments are trying to do the best for their people… Even the Chinese shared the Corona genome as soon as they sequenced it.. What are you so scared of? … It seems this virus is scary, it’s deadly or very serious to a higher percentage of the population than anything in my lifetime, and I honestly believe that the world’s governments are trying their best…. We are in uncharted waters, and if you honestly believe that a mandate to wear a mask, ( correctly and responsibly ) is a worse tactic by your government than refusing to do anything, not stamping on your rights, and let God sort it out is correct…. Well… All I can say is good luck with that one guys…

  • Lee wrote: “And I’m willing to bet a bottle of decent scotch whisky that no one here lives in a crowded urban environment.”

You owe a lot of people a lot of scotch whisky. I know that most of the commenters here live in crowded urban environments. Cotour for example is stuck in New York City (yuch!).

You are also wrong when you say flu never killed or hospitalized anyone. It did, and does, but generally only the older and sicker population. Which is exactly what COVID-19 is doing.

The anger you sense is coming from a justified belief that our naturally given rights of freedom, established by the foundations of western civilization, are being destroyed over this hysterical panic. You should try to recognize that such anger is actually quite reasonable, especially considering the number of people who died to give us those rights and freedoms.

Right now, my county — and possibly my state — do not allow me to leave my house except to gather food or for various emergencies, such as a plumbing leak or immediate health need. The freedom to travel was so basic that it is not explicitly protected in the Bill of Rights but its protection is implied in the Ninth Amendment. Right now, my lockdown directive eliminates that right. I certainly hope that I have a God given right (or natural right, if you don’t believe in God) to be very angry at the loss of such a basic right.

The Constitution does not grant us our rights, it protects them from overbearing government officials.

The purpose of the First Amendment is to protect my right to be as much of an ass hat as I choose. The freedom to speak my mind, to associate with whomever I choose — that I choose, not the government’s choice — to worship, to spread or discuss news of the day, or to gripe to my government representatives (another form of making an ass hat of myself). These are other rights that I want the right to be angry that I am losing or have lost.

    Lee Stevenson,
If you don’t think that we or you should be disagreeable, then I recommend that you just go ahead and agree with everything that we say — or more to the point: everything that I say.

I have to decide my answer into two halves… Bob, I said flu has not killed anyone I know…. It certainly put my ex wife in hospital… And gave my 2 young ( at the time ) kids fever and flu like symptoms…. I managed to beat a low fever, and look after them, a thousand miles away from any help , possibly the most scared I’ve ever been… fortunately it all turned out ok!… I know people that have not been so lucky. This virus is worse than any regular flu..
@ Edward… I’m sorry, I do not understand the ins and outs of your constitutional system…I have learned that you guys hate being “told what to do” , and indeed I kinda respect that attitude, but …… You can pick any report you choose, they all recommend a bit of mask use and social distancing helps… I personally think we are stuck with this virus, and it’s better to just take it on the chin…but any local, regional or national politician who said that would be fired immediately… Until this crap ends… I got no problems wearing a mask on public transport, or anywhere else it’s required or requested….. And those that fire up like kindling against it are just virtue signaling. ( I mean our host and most of the readers here.) Bob only seeks out.the figures that suit his political agenda ( sorry Bob,.but you do…. There are soo many studies that refute your figures)
I am pre news year Eve (sic?) but I wish you all a very happy new year,.. it can hardly be worse than the last one …, Stay safe guys ,?

    Lee Stevenson,
You wrote: “You can pick any report you choose, they all recommend a bit of mask use and social distancing helps

    I wasn’t talking about masks, but …

Only the Lysenkoism reports recommend mask use. Before the Wuhan flu, many doctors and scientists desperately wanted masks to be helpful at preventing the spread of diseases, but were unable to demonstrate effectiveness, even when used properly. The following essay quotes or links to many pre-Wuhan reports that had been performed on this topic — these are the reports that I will choose, to respond to your challenge:
    https://wmbriggs.com/post/32326/

You may even notice that a couple of the reports show that mask use during surgery are not as effective as we have been led to believe. Post-surgical infection rates are not reduced by as much as we laymen have thought, and these are people who use them properly, not in the unsanitary way that virtually everyone else has to use them. The expense to we individuals of changing masks every two hours is prohibitive, but hospitals can afford to do this. Not handling our masks is drilled into the professionals, but we laymen touch and adjust our masks continually. Storing our face diapers between uses is often in pockets, in purses, or on our chins, three unsanitary places, yet here we are, putting these dirty, disgusting, moisture-clogged things directly into our airways for hours on end, day after day, for months without end.

This explains why our fearful leaders begged us to not wear masks, at the beginning of the Wuhan panic and why they do not wear them themselves when they think no one is watching. Even the U.S. Surgeon General told us, “They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!” Emphasis is the Surgeon General’s.

Now, however, our fearful leaders have realized that the Wuhan panic attack is something that they can use to their advantage, and directing us as to what to wear, where we may travel, and how to live (or not live) is part of that advantage.

If our fearful leaders actually cared for our wellbeing, they would have protected the most vulnerable among us rather than intentionally infect them by sending Wuhan-ailing patients directly into the densest collections of the most vulnerable. If they cared for us, they would have quarantined the ill, rather than just suggest that they wear masks when they go out and about amongst the rest of us. If they cared, they would have allowed the healthy to continue being productive so that we had the resources to combat the ills of the world, rather than destroy our productivity so that now both the World Trade Organization and the World Health Organization fear tens — or hundreds — of millions of deaths by malnutrition and poverty.

Even now, our fearful leaders are discouraging us from seeking early treatment for potentially terminal illnesses, because they want to leave hospital beds available for Wuhan patients. Delayed treatments will only result in greater suffering and more deaths than necessary.

The government and public reaction to Wuhan flu is far, far worse than the flu itself. You may not know anyone who died from the reaction, but they exist, and the numbers grow the longer we are prevented from being prosperous. Poverty, malnutrition, and despair are spreading rapidly all around the world, even here in the once-great United States of America.

But it will all be fine, if we all just wear our masks. All but our fearful leaders, who know better.
