Readers!

The time has come for my annual short Thanksgiving/Christmas fund drive for Behind The Black. I must do this every year in order to make sure I have earned enough money to pay my bills.

For this two-week campaign, I am offering a special deal to encourage donations. Donations of $200 will get a free autographed copy of the new paperback edition of Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8, while donations of $250 will get a free autographed copy of the new hardback edition. If you desire a copy, make sure you provide me your address with your donation.

As I noted in July, the support of my readers through the years has given me the freedom and ability to analyze objectively the ongoing renaissance in space, as well as the cultural changes -- for good or ill -- that are happening across America. Fourteen years ago I wrote that SLS and Orion were a bad ideas, a waste of money, would be years behind schedule, and better replaced by commercial private enterprise. Only now does it appear that Washington might finally recognize this reality.

In 2020 when the world panicked over COVID I wrote that the panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Only in the past year have some of our so-called experts in the health field have begun to recognize these facts.

Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.

Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are four ways of doing so:

1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.

2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.

3. A Paypal Donation or subscription:

4. Donate by check, payable to Robert Zimmerman and mailed to

Today’s blacklisted American: Amazon blacklists book because it says something someone at Amazon doesn’t like

Book banned by Amazon
Banned by bookseller Amazon.

The modern dark age: Amazon has without explanation removed a book about Islam, The Islam in Islamic Terrorism: The Importance of Beliefs, Ideas, and Ideology and written by ex-Muslim Ibn Warraq, essentially blacklisting it from sale.

A search at Amazon confirms this fact. The book is no longer available there.

The publisher, New English Review, said this in its press release:

Amazon’s banning of the Warraq book follows on the heels of their earlier banning of another NER Press title, “Easy Meat: Inside Britain’s Grooming Gang Scandal” by Peter McLoughlin, which chronicles the actions, or rather the inaction, of the police, social services, justice system and government in the face of the widespread phenomenon of very young British girls being groomed and then pimped out and held in virtual sex slavery by gangs of grown men.

…As usual, no specific reason has been given for this latest book’s removal. NER Press appealed and that appeal was denied within two hours. “The Islam in Islamic Terrorism” had been on sale since May of 2017 and “Easy Meat” since March of 2016. Both had over 85% five-star ratings and both sold well. Mr. Warraq is the author of 17 books and “The Islam in Islamic Terrorism” was also translated into Korean.

Nor are these two books the only books Amazon has banned. In February 2021 it banned When Harry Became Sally: Responding To The Transgender Moment, apparently because that book had the nerve to strongly criticize the queer movement.

All the books that have been banned are books that the left does not like, two because they opposed the gay agenda, and the third because it dared outline the terrorist roots in Islam. As Robert Spencer notes in his own column about this banning:

Leftists will say, as they always say to criticism of the social media giants, that Amazon is a private company that can do what it wants and that if patriots don’t like it, they can start their own bookstore.

Remember bookstores? There used to be many in every American city. They all had different selections, based on the owners’ perspectives and interests. But now they are almost all gone. Amazon dominates the book market, and Barnes & Noble takes most of the rest. If Amazon decides that your book is not acceptable, then most people who are interested in books will never have the opportunity to see it at all.

As an author myself, I can tell you without any qualification that if Amazon bans a book, it essentially removes the book from the public eye. This is an unhealthy situation, but it presently is the reality. It is why in my ads for my books on my webpage I always encourage buyers to buy directly from my publisher, ebookit. Direct purchases not only reduce Amazon’s monopoly, those sales strengthen ebookit, thus encouraging competition.

In fact, as a general rule, if you find a book on Amazon that you are interested in buying, you should always do a web search for its publisher. I guarantee that publisher will have a webpage where you can buy the book direct. Do so. Help independent publishers and weaken the totalitarian censors at Amazon.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The print edition can be purchased at Amazon. from any other book seller, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Note Amazon is on the way to dropping off the One Trillion Dollars Company list by close of business Today!

    Facebook has dropped $750 Billion….

    NICE …..

I feel it is my duty to read this book now.

    You have that right John!

  • Two choices:
    – Buy independent of Amazon – there are other sources for books, including the publishing companies.
    – Borrow the book from your local public library. If they don’t have it already, suggest it – many libraries will purchase by request. The author will still receive the benefit of the purchase.

Also, when I recommend books in the future, I will definitely link to the publisher’s site.

  • Linda:
All of the gatekeepers in the mainstream publishing would never publish books like those Amazon dropped. The distributors aren’t going to distribute them either. Libraries are far left these days and won’t purchase them either. Small presses are just that, they have small markets and poor distribution. If you can’t get published (always been hard), no distribution, no availability…authors starve.

you can buy ‘The Islam in Islamic Terrorism’ fairly easy. Ebay. Abe Books. Lots of places.

Available at Walmart! The Islam in Islamic Terrorism : The Importance of Beliefs, Ideas, and Ideology

Not my favorite place but maybe reward them for making it available.

  • Ibn Warraq’s The Islam in Islamic Terrorism is not available at Abebooks.com (“ABE” = “Advanced Book Exchange,” which originally a consortium of independent booksellers, is now owned by Amazon). A number of Ibn Warraq’s other books are there, though. I see, for instance, that he also wrote a book with the title: The West is Best: A Muslim Apostate’s Defense of Liberal Democracy, $7.23 used but in very good condition.

Amazon has become a de facto monopoly* – especially when it comes to e-books. And that is always bad for an industry.
(* Or near as makes no nevermind.)

So, while the book hasn’t actually been banned anywhere but Amazon, that makes it a de facto ban on the book, in general.

Ooooh, from one Dr Rich Swier’s blog:
Ibn Warraq’s The Islam in Islamic Terrorism, after being banned at Amazon, has zoomed to #73 on Barnes and Noble’s charts. That’s out of all the books there are, kids.

    BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
