New bill would repeal Patriot Act
Some good news: Two Congressmen have introduced legislation to repeal the Patriot Act as well as end all unconstitutional domestic spying by government agencies.
The article notes that there is bi-partisan support for “doing something” about the out-of-control surveillance of federal agencies like the National Security Agency. I agree. Expect something like this to get passed. Whether Obama will veto it is another question. Despite what he says (which no one should every believe), he likes the idea of prying into the lives of private citizens.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

But both sides seem to have sooo much time and extreme effort in getting it signed into law, why would the powers that be allow such an investment of time, treasure and blood go to waste? The Patriot act existed long before 9-11 and was just waiting for a reason to be enacted into existence. I guess they strongly “suspected” that something along the lines of 911 would eventually happen?
See Washington can be very effective in anticipating what may or may not happen in the future to the detriment of the nation. They had no Idea that The Soviet Union would come apart, they had no idea that Libya would come apart and they told the people that Ben Gazi was caused by a video, they have no idea who is coming over our border, but they some how knew that this act would be needed.
Lets not hold our collective breath that it will be going anywhere anytime soon.
