ULA’s Atlas-5 successfully launches Perseverance to Mars
ULA’s Atlas-5 rocket this morning successfully launched NASA’s Perseverance rover on its journey to Mars.
The rover is scheduled to arrive on Mars on February 18, 2021, landing in Jezero Crater.
The leaders in the 2020 launch race:
18 China
11 SpaceX
8 Russia
4 ULA
3 Japan
The U.S. now leads China 19-18 in the national rankings.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

I don’t see how you add up to 19 for the US in that table. But I am relieved to see this boy sailing safely through the empty darkness. Atlas V does it thing and it works every time. No need for popcorn when watching it launch. It does its do. Beautiful! It’s putting a thing on Mars, fantastic!
LocalFluff, Bob is counting Rocket Lab Electron launches out of NZ since they are a US company, so that’s:
11 SpaceX Falcon 9s
+ 4 ULA Atlas Vs (February’s 411, March’s 551, May’s 501, Today’s 541)
+ 2 Northrop Grumman (February’s Antares & July’s Minotaur IV)
+ 2 Rocket Lab Electrons (January & June, but not counting the July failure).
Go Mars 2020!
