Sommerrodelbahn im Stubaital – Mountain Coaster
An evening pause: Let’s go for a ride!
Hat tip Tom Biggar, who notes that this is “Europe´s longest Mountain Coaster with a track length of 2.8 km (1.73 miles) and an elevation difference of 640 meters (2,100 feet). It also has forty steep curves reaching a maximum speed of 42 kmh (26 mph).
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News
Fun!
Proving again that it’s not speed, but acceleration, that gets the adrenalin flowing. My four-wheel toy is quick, but not fast. Lots of vertical curves, and 2100′ is a very respectable elevation change. The scenery, down to the logged areas, looks very much like home.
Being a boy of that age and having an adventure like that with your dad (I assume) is what life is all about!
That would be great for the Smokeys.
Is there a built-in governor, to limit the speed? I’m guessing Yes.
I had no idea this was a “thing”. It does look fun.
Good demonstration of “mass doesn’t matter to speed of falling”; Dad, presumably heavier, doesn’t catch up.
Four different brake systems including a governor.

How are these “cars” getting back up the hill? Only one track is visible. I’d be putting them on the cable cars above but that involves taking the cars off the track and loading the cable car and then putting them back on.
Colin_R asked: “How are these “cars” getting back up the hill?”
I’m guessing crane from track to truck, then the reverse at the top.
… whoa .. the stumps and rocks gave me a shudder ….
Sign me up !!

Not a photo from that particular coaster:

I’d expect a straight track on a direct route with a tow line – without people on board.
I would want one a lot longer and faster and the ‘car’ shaped like a Star Wars speeder bike.
No breaks until the very end.
