On the Space Show tonight

I will be doing a long two hour appearance on the Space Show tonight with David Livingston, starting at 6 pm (Pacific).

The live show will be on Zoom. To join that Zoom meeting as a video participant you need to be a supporter of the Space Show by donating at least $100. However, anyone can listen and participate by phone.

If you want to listen and participate without donating, you need to email David Livingston at drspace@thespaceshow.com prior to airtime for both the Zoom phone numbers and access permission. The name and the phone number you provide should agree with the same on your telephone number log in when you enter the Zoom waiting room. The Space Show is following Zoom security requirements in inviting public participation in this program.

Without the access codes, you will not be able to join.

I hope my readers join in. The conversation is always stimulating, and the more people that participate, the better.

On the Space Show tonight

I will be making another long appearance on the Space Show tonight with David Livingston, beginning at 7 pm (Pacific). If you want to listen and even participate, note that the toll free phone number is no longer available. Instead, you need to go through zoom, as follows:

Listening Instruction for today’s BOB ZIMMERMAN discussion Zoom program. We want to hear from you with your ideas, thoughts and information. Please use the Zoom numbers below but you need to email me at drspace@thespaceshow.com for the Meeting ID. Participation in the Zoom room is for large donors to The Space Show as a way of showing our thanks for helping to make The Space Show possible for 25 years. The Space Show is a listener supported program so if you like our programming, please support us.

There is a PayPal button on our home page in the upper right area. Zelle donations us david@onegiantleapfoundation.org. You can also subscribe to us using Substack.

In addition to the above, if you previously called using our toll free number, unlike that number, calling us on a Zoom phone number enables you to listen to the entire program and join the discussion. This is far better than the old toll free number in which you had to get off the line to make room for other callers.

On the Space Show tomorrow

I will be doing a long 90 minute-plus appearance with David Livingston on the Space Show tomorrow evening, beginning at 7 pm (Pacific). I hope my readers will consider calling in with questions or disagreements or comments. The show is always better with listener interaction.

I definitely plan to talk about my proposal for rethinking NASA’s Artemis program, as outlined in this two-part essay:

Part 1 of 2: What NASA’s next administrator should do if SLS and Orion are cancelled

Part 2 of 2: De-emphasize a fast Moon landing and build a real American space industry instead December 11, 2024

I very much would like to hear other people’s opinions about my suggestions.

March 4, 2024 Zimmerman/Space Show podcast

David Livingston has now posted my two-hour appearance on the Space Show last night, with the podcast available for download here.

Despite some technical issues halfway through (which David has edited out of the podcast), the show was fun, especially because of a lot of very good questions from listeners. The second half of the show was devoted to discussing my book Conscious Choice, which David Livingston had read and wanted to highlight. His endorsement of the book was much appreciated. As he noted (I am paraphrasing), it you are interested in the problem of establishing space settlements, you must read this book, because it deals with things beyond engineering that are as if not more important.

A grateful thank you to all who contributed during July’s fund-raising campaign

My annual July fund-raising campaign for Behind the Black, celebrating the thirteenth anniversary of my first posts back in 2010, has now ended.

This was the second most successful monthly fund-raising campaign ever. Thank you again to everyone who has who donated or subscribed. I would like to email thanks to you all, but there are too many. Please accept this general thank you instead. It is difficult to explain what your support means to me, as it has raised the earnings so far this year to almost match last year’s numbers.

This thank you notice will remain at the top of the page for the next few days. Scroll down for new stories.

From the original post:
——————————
I sincerely dislike begging for donations and subscriptions, which is why I shortened my February campaign from its normal four weeks to only two. I wanted to spare both my readers and myself some of this pleading.

Sadly, that decision resulted in a total drop in donations, so that at this point in 2023 the website’s income is down 25% from last year, even though my traffic continues to be robust, in the range of four to five million hits per month. I am therefore forced to run this July campaign for the full four weeks, unless the donations and new subscriptions in the next few weeks make up this difference.

Please consider supporting my work, by using one of four methods (Zelle, Patreon, Paypal, or check) described in the tip jar elsewhere on this page. I take no advertisements nor accept any sponsors in order to keep the website clean, easy to read, and to avoid any accusations of conflict of interest. Your support leaves me entirely independent, able to say whatever I think while being free from censorship or reprisals.

The February 2023 Behind the Black fund-raising campaign-THANK YOU

My annual February fund-raising campaign is now over. I decided to shorten it by two weeks because I was tired of begging my readers for money. As expected, this will likely make this a much smaller campaign then previous years. So be it.

Nonetheless, I sincerely and with deep gratitude thank all those who donated. Without your support I could not keep doing this, not so much because of the need for income to pay the bills, but because it tells me that there are people out there who want me to do this work.

For those who did not contribute during the campaign, the tip jar is still somewhere on this webpage. Please consider adding your vote of support to Behind the Black.

On the radio plus under the weather

Two things:

1. I will be on the Space Show with David Livingston tomorrow night for about two hours, beginning at 7 pm (Pacific). You can listen to it here. Please consider calling in. Conversations and questions are always fun.

2. I am a bit under the weather today, so it is likely I will not have the energy to do a blacklist column today or a cool image. This could change, as I get restless if not active. Regardless, I want to take some pressure off by making it voluntary, not a requirement for the day.

Alternatives to PayPal for supporting Behind the Black

In the past two days a large number of my subscribers have suddenly canceled their PayPal subscriptions to Behind the Black. I am certain this sudden activity is because these subscribers have also canceled all of their business with PayPal, because of its announcement that if it doesn’t like what someone says or writes, it will literally steal up to $2,500 from that person’s PayPal account. See this article describing the sudden exodus from Paypal due to this unethical policy.

For the past two years I have been steadily adding additional payment options so that neither I nor my supporters will have to depend on PayPal. These have included Patreon, Zelle, and mailing a check to me directly.

I have now added one more, Gabpay. This payment service has been formed by the same people who created Gab as a free speech alternative to Twitter. Gabpay appears to work almost identical to PayPal, but its fees are less and it has no intention of stealing anyone’s money because it doesn’t like what someone says or writes.

Thus, regular readers can now support Behind The Black in one of five ways:

  • Send me a check payable to Robert Zimmerman c/o Behind The Black, P.O.Box 1262
Cortaro, AZ 85652 . With this method every dime you contribute goes to me.
  • Subscribe or donate through Zelle, using my email address zimmerman @ nasw dot org. This method also charges no fees. Every dime you spend goes only to me.
  • NEW! Donate through Gabpay, using my email address zimmerman @ nasw dot org. Gabpay takes a cut of about 2%.
  • Subscribe or donate at my Patreon website, which takes a cut of about 12%.
  • Subscribe or donate through Paypal using the buttons in the tip jar elsewhere on this page. PayPal also takes a cut of about 12%.

I encourage my regular subscribers on both Paypal and Patreon to consider switching to Zelle. Several subscribers have done so, and have found the process simple and easy, while also guaranteeing all of your donation reaches me. If you use Zelle to either newly subscribe or switch your old subscription, please use my email address to send me a separate email telling me the monthly amount of your subscription and your chosen payment date. Zelle does not send notifications for such things.

Regardless, I celebrate my readers who are quitting PayPal. It has proven itself as unethical as companies like Google, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, all of which I avoid at all costs. Rather than sit back like sheep, these readers are proving that they are free citizens willing to fight. Kudos to you all!

Conscious Choice now available as either a hardback or a paperback

Conscious Choice

I am proud to announce that in addition to the ebook that came out last year, print editions of my new book, Conscious Choice: The origins of slavery in America and why it matters today and for our future in outer space, are now available. Check out sales pages at book vendors like Amazon and Barnes & Noble if you are interested.

I am also selling autographed copies of these print editions, directly at discount, $24.95 for the hardback and $14.95 for the paperback, plus $5 shipping. Email me at zimmerman at nasw dot org if you want to buy a copy!

The ebook is still for sale for $3.99, but that price will go up to $5.99 on September 1, 2022.

“I really do believe that everybody needs to get a copy of Conscious Choice. It is that important a book. It is one of the most important books given today’s social upheaval.”
Robert Pratt, long time radio host
