The wind speeds on seven exoplanets also suggest presence of magnetic fields
Astronomers using two different ground-based telescopes were able to measure the wind speeds on seven different gas giant exoplanets, and found the speeds also suggested the presence of planetary magnetic fields, the first time such magnetic fields have been deduced on an exoplanet.
In the study, the researchers investigated the wind speeds on seven exoplanets orbiting different stars. These are gas giants similar to Jupiter, which are very close to their star. Elspeth Lee explains: “The rotation of the planets was synchronized with their orbits by the tidal forces of the parent star. Just as we only ever see one side of the moon, these planets always have one side facing the star. Thus, a glowing hot day side and a permanently dark night side have formed on the planets. The extreme temperature differences in turn lead to the generation of extremely strong winds.”
…The research team was able to show that wind speeds of around 7,200 km/h to over 25,000 km/h prevail on the exoplanets. For comparison: the fastest winds measured on Jupiter reach speeds of around 1,500 km/h.
The data showed that the hotter the planet, the slower the wind, the opposite of what was expected. The scientists believe that each planet’s magnetic field is acting to brake the winds, with the hotter planets likely having more powerful fields.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The print edition can be purchased at Amazon or from any other book seller. If you want an autographed copy the price is $60 for the hardback and $45 for the paperback, plus $8 shipping for each. Go here for purchasing details. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

THE UNCERTAINTY OF SCIENCE!!!!
When I was a kid, I attached two car batteries in series to an aluminum can full of water. Anode: copper wire in the middle, cathode: alligator clip to the side of the can.
I would produce enough bubbles that I could light it briefly. But I found out the power will only flow in one direction like a diode. (no bubbles when I switched polarity)
Then I put a magnet under the can and cried “Eureka” as the fluid in the can started to rotate! An electrical current through a fluid or High pH gas inside of a magnetic field creates a hurricane!
The greater the pH, or the greater the current, or the magnetic field, the faster the fluid would spin.
If two magnets are introduced, you create two vortex spinning in opposite directions, vertical or horizontal depending on placement.
(The aluminum can would dissolve and make the fluid milky, so I used a pickle jar with a quarter on the clip to see if I can make the copper wire electroplate it with a copper coating… Salt to make water conductive and pepper to watch how the current would flow)
My point is that “I hypothesize” that Jupiters bands of high winds with embedded storms / cyclones flowing in opposite directions… are all connected to the layer of plasma where the air is super hot, creating an electrical currents / and Jupiters super strong magnetic field that flows around Jupiter skin. (not through the center like earth)
Different conditions will offer different results on other worlds so it will be exciting to diagnose the differences.
