Ronnie O’Sullivan’s record break in Snooker
An evening pause: Hat tip Phill Oltmann, who has tried several times to explain Snooker to me and failed. The game however appears to be a variation of the U.S. pool game hi-low, though maybe more complicated.
The point is that in the video below, O’Sullivan starts the game and proceeds to clear the table, and he does it in less than six minutes, the fastest time ever. It is amazing to watch.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News
The more important point is that the clearance is the highest possible, taking blacks with each of the 15 reds. A Canadian, Cliff Thorburn, was the first to do it televised and he did it at the Crucible. the most noteworthy venue.
Some one does hold the record for the lowest total clearance, and it can be found on U-tube.
Wow.
I once aspired to shoot billiards. I was told that making the current shot isn’t as important as having a good leave. Amply illustrated, here. At the 65 point mark, you can see he’s feeling it, and in the zone. Noticed that the balls went straight in to the pocket, barely touching the bumpers. Liked the comment at the end: “It’s as if the record was six minutes, and he was out to break it.”
