New sky survey uncovers hundreds of thousands of previously unknown galaxies
Galaxies without end: A new radio telescope sky survey has discovered hundreds of thousands of previously unknown galaxies.
This discovery is part of a major release of papers outlining a number of discoveries made by this new sky survey.
I could of course also subheaded this post “The uncertainty of science.” Wanna bet that even with this discovery we have only seen the tip of the iceberg of the number of galaxies out there?
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

I can’t wait till the JWT starts sending back data!
Wait, what? The “uncertainly of science?”
Does this mean that, gasp, man made global warming science may not, in fact, be ‘settled science?’
We must notify Al Gore.
(sarcasm..OFF)
F16 Guy: I suspect you are a relatively recent reader at BtB. Do a search there for Al Gore. You will find a lot of essays by me that you will find most entertaining.
and yet , the missing “DARK” matter/energy must still be added to the Cosmological recipe?
Orion314: Remember always that dark matter and dark energy are addressing two different mysteries of astronomy, and are very different.
Note too that these newly discovered galaxies almost certainly do not contain enough matter to make up the dark matter deficit, and more importantly, they are in the wrong place to address the issue, which has to do with the rotation rates within galaxies. This fact is known pretty certainly: the outer stars in galaxies rotate faster than they should based on the visible matter, by a lot. The only solution that astronomers have come up with so far seems to solve this issue is the presence of a lot of unseen matter, “dark matter” so to speak.
This is a kludge, and most good astronomers readily admit it. At the same time, they don’t have any other solution available, at this time.
As for dark energy, that is a mystery based on so many assumptions I generally don’t pay much attention to it.
Robert..not a new follower, but hadn’t seen your Al Gore archives. These were excellent (of many):
Global Warming advocates debunk their own theory

A review of Al Gore’s movie “An Inconvenient Truth”, ten years later

Many thanks
F16 Guy: I have added the urls to both posts to your comment. For me personally, I like these essays, with the second my favorite:
Close-minded politicians everywhere!
Al Gore and the silencing of debate
Sunspots and the danger of crying wolf
The science remains uncertain
